We are non residents with a holiday apartment in Almoradí.  I am looking for bank recommendations as our current bank charges are getting ridiculous. There are a few banks in Almoradí and I  wondered which is thought to be the best. It needs to be in the town ss we don't always have transport when we visit. Thank you

I too have a Starling Bank account which has the advantage of a combined euro account but a note of caution. If you decide in the future to apply for residency, you will be required to show a Spanish Bank account with the input of regular funds or (currently), a minimum 9000€ In said Spanish bank account for a period of at least three months plus other documents. See Jim’s guide, down right hand side of forum home page.

Tom.

Sorry, off topic slightly, anyone aware if Spanish utility companies accept Starling IBAN's for direct debits ? In particular, Iberdrola and Accionagua ?

Thank Richard, that's positive. Checked with Starling and IBAN has GB prefix which presented Direct Debit problems in the past. I'll double check with utilities before signing up with Starling.

i had no problem sorting out my direct debit but make sure they are set up through your euro account  ,The one tip i would give would be set your direct debits with starling afters you have  paid  your lastest bill as it can take a couple of weeks for some of the spanish companies to set up your direct debit.Take it from me its worth a little of messing about to save 150 euros a year

I closed my Sabadell account because of the ever increasing charges. I opened a Wise (formerly Transferwise) account to pay my Iberdrola, Suma, insurance and Hidraqua bills. The only charge is for some cash withdrawals but as most things can now be paid by card that's not much of a problem.
