Not all Spanish suppliers admit charging a foreign bank accout. You will have to negitiate individually. In o9rder to close a spanish bank account you must show up in person.

Thank you, I'll look into it when I'm over in April. Thanks again.

With the greatest respect you can indeed close your account without having to go to a branch in person. I closed my sabadell account 5 months ago this way. I had to transfer every penny out of my account then called the sabadell UK line and they in fairness were very helpful and it was pretty painless. Moved to Wise as so many on the forum have done and really pleased.
Maybe I was just lucky with the pets on i got on the phone as I have read others having a difficult time.
Best regards Binz

Hi,
I did this through a Spanish Abogado (solicitor), it was a legal assistant in the office who did these transfers , done and dusted in two days. I already had the direct debits set up with Sabadell, I just supplied the office with copy's of a bill from each of the company's and my BOI Iban etc.
It cost 80€ plus Vat.

Hi Iona25,
As Ireland is a member of the EU, the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) of your Irish bank should be accepted by Spanish utility companies. Most people manage to do this quite easily themselves for electricity and SUMA taxes, i.e. Council Tax, although I often see people report that switching DDs for the water company can be more problematic, as they only liaise with customers in Spanish. If that´s a problem for you, it may be best to get a Spanish-speaking gestor or your lawyer to do this for you, although they will charge for their service.
Kind regards,
Kim
Thank you all,
