I live in Almoradi and believe that there have not been too many cases here, although there are still quite a few people who do not appear to adhere to the mandatory wearing of face masks.   The shops, in the main, have been quite good at masks and sanitizer provision, although the masks situation is not now as strict as it was a few weeks ago but sanitizer is still available.   The health centre is very strict with both these items though.   The Saturday market is now back in full swing.   The fiestas held at this time of year have been cancelled but some entertainments in the main square have been arranged with the social distancing seating in place.   Bars and restaurants do have social distancing of tables in place.

Almoradi is coping well, although a very few new cases, usually found by the covid test. People social distancing and wearing masks is the norm. The Saturday market back on, again the police keeping an eye on things, bars , restaurants open. Still the lovely town it always was!!

Golandrina,

That's very worrying to read that you think the wearing of masks isn't as strict as it was - with businesses now legally responsible, as well as individuals, for ensuring customers wear face masks (and huge fines if they don't), I would expect to see much stricter adherence to the wearing of masks.

We went out for dinner last night, wore our masks from the car park into the restaurant and we weren't allowed to remove them until we had placed our food and drinks order.  During the evening, my husband got up to go to the toilet and was nicely but firmly told to put his mask back on before leaving the table.  I hope all bars and restaurants will be as diligent - we've only been out to dinner 4 times since lockdown lifted and we all need to feel safe to have the confidence to continue doing so.  This is even more important with Spain's cases of Covid-19 more than doubling in the last 3 weeks and the UK's reintroduction of the 14 days quarantine period.

Friday's information from the Ministry of Health doesn't mention Almoradi, but you can see from the stats that there are new cases in many parts of the Vega Baja:

"LAST MINUTE COVID 19 | Data updated by the Ministry of Health as of this Friday, July 24, 2020.

Coronavirus cases increase in #VegaBaja. The last time there was an increase in cases was last Tuesday. The following Municipalities that have registered new positives:

➡️ Benejúzar (+1)

➡️ Daya Nueva (+1)

➡️ Formentera del Segura (+1)

➡️ Orihuela (+1)

➡️ Pilar de la Horadada (+2)

➡️ Rojales (+1)

➡️ San Miguel de Salinas (+1)

➡️ Torrevieja (+8)

"Torrevieja Hospital records the first three admissions by Covid since the alarm state was lifted. The municipality of Torrevieja adds 16 cases in the last fourteen days, although the Generalitat has not reported any outbreaks. To the positives of the Torrevieja municipality are added one in Rojales, Pilar de la Horadada, Daya Nueva and Orihuela.

"Floor 0 of the University Hospital of Torrevieja, prepared for the care of the sick, Covid has treated several patients in the last week, three of whom were admitted yesterday. His condition is not serious, as this newspaper has been able to confirm. To these 16 cases we must add one more in Pilar de la Horadada, Daya Vieja, Orihuela and Rojales. In total 20 active cases per PCR test, in an increase that has occurred since last weekend. In the next few hours, new cases could be confirmed, bringing the number in the department to 24."

Stay safe,

Kim

Hi Kimmy11.

I too went for a light meal last evening. The restaurant was full, no spare inside tables. approx 45 persons 1.5 m apart except for two or three tables joined together with 8-10 families &/or friends. Some all had masks. Some on the table, others on their chins or wrists. All without exception wore no masks, only the staff.

We selected an outside table for two. There were approx 30-45 tables (as the authorities had allowed), to extend onto the road which has had permission to close. This eatery (in normal times has 5 or 6 tables). The clients numbered about 200 or more. All had their masks, none wearing them as all were eating or drinking. I entered the establishment with my half glass intending to have more ice. The bar-tender indicated to wear a mask as I entered among the maskless eaters, until he saw I was clutching my glass, indicated not needed as he saw I was partially consuming said contents & replenished the ice.

The reason I have mentioned it, in view of the suspected "spike" on C-19, as as far as I know carried by the (us) human host, wherever they are from, (town, city or country) & are deposited on all sorts of articles, then inhaled. The virus is not blown in from afar, it is passed by human contact or in their vicinity.

I left quite early, but no doubt the revellers would leave around midnight, dutifully don their masks &, with them placed over one´s respiratory system, walk home (or drive to their towns). I believe that many feel are protected from the virus by sitting 1.5 mtrs from the other hundred clients around each other.. Covid-19 can´t travel any further? (can it?). Finally, I believe that complacency of protected masks (when worn) feel secure from the virus. Follow the law but follow common sense, the virus is "out" to infect. We are just the means of transport wherever one comes from.

I couldn't agree more, Villas.  I said it last week and I'll keep on saying it ad nauseam - the single most important thing we must all do is wash or sanitize our hands very regularly.

Last night, we met friends and their son in a bar for pre-dinner drinks.  We put on our masks when we left the terrace to go into the restaurant and I stopped at the hand sanitizer station - the daughter-in-law ignored it, complaining that it dries out her hands.  I called her back and told her it wasn't optional.  Later in the evening, she went to the toilet and I was pleased to see she remembered her mask - unfortunately, it was inside out! 😔
