As non residents we came out to Spain on November 29th and stayed for 21 days before going back to the UK. We then returned to Spain on January 9th and were hoping to remain here for another 69 days, making a total of 90 days.

However, when we entered  our dates on the Schengen website it indicated that we had to leave Spain by the 26th of February ie within 90 days of arriving in late November.

It seems unlikely that the Schengen website is giving wrong information but we're hoping that's not the case,

Please advise.

Hello George. It tells you that if you re enter the Schengen area again on 20th December 2021, you can stay for another 69 days, and you must leave again on 26th February.

I’ve just put your dates in from your first trip and your second trip here’s a screen shot.

Looking at the Schengen calculator ( https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/visa-calculator/ ) If you return 9th Jan 2022 you can have a continuous stay until 18th March 2022 before breeching the 90 day rule. Do check that you travelling days are within this period.

Thanks for your help resolving this. I didn't see how I could enter a second stay on the calculator, but I do now and agree with your two calculations.

Again, many thanks.

Hi David. My confusion was similar to your case. I think if you put your dates into the calculator you'll find that you're entitled to be here for a other couple of months. Your time in the UK doesn't affect your 90 days allowance.

Hi George,

My impression is that the clock starts ticking as soon as you enter the euro zone, irrespective of where you spend the 90 days. Then once outside of the EU you have to wait 90 days before you can go back.. When I put the dates into the calculator it says my last day is the 25th January.. that's it for me until April. Just one of the many benifits of brexit I guess..

David, your calculations are not right, you have 90 in 180 days, which doesn’t mean exactly 90’dats after your first date of entry.

Have you tried using the Schengen app, try adding dates in April/May and you will see that you are eligible to stay!

Yes, I did use the calculator and it came up as the last day I could be in the Schengen area was the 25th Jan..
