From 1st November, unless you pay for priority boarding with Ryanair (£5 per person), you won't be able to take your wheelie bag (up to 55cm x 40cm x 20cm) into the cabin. They will be taken from you at the gate and placed in the hold (free of charge).

You will only be allowed a smaller bag, like a handbag (35cm x 20cm x 20cm), on board.

However, they have increased the hold luggage from 15kg to 20kg and reduced the price from £35 to £25.

Only a matter of time till they did this..The messing around trying to fit the bags in the overheads was causing delays. Bit of a pain. But every time we fly I hire a car. So the wife can wait for the bags whilst I sort the hire car.

I would like to say that the value Ryanair offers is UNBELIEVEABLE. There is no other European airline in the same ball park. For over a year now Ryanair were offering an option to have your wheelie bag put in the hold or you bring it on to the plane yourself. We always took the option of the hold because it is a pain carrying the wheelies on board and off. With this new rule passengers can be off in 10 min. instead of 25 min. I think it's unusual that priority passengers will now be paying extra to carry their own cases on and off the aircraft.

And taking people's bags from them as they board the plane won't cause any delays?

Hola Andrew,

The bags will be taken from passengers at the gate and will be in the hold before everyone is in their seats. Even with time to spare as the pilot awaits clearance to take off. Anyway, when the good Lord made time he made plenty of it and look at us living over here enjoying every minute of it. How do like living in La Marina Andrew ?

Jim - I booked some flights for next May with Ryanair on Friday, the cost of putting a suitcase in the hold is now £40 each way, not £25!

Brennie - the fact that most people's hand luggage will now been in the hold won't make for a speedier disembark from the plane? The usual hold-ups are due to the amount of people trying to exit through the one door at the same time, not due to people man-handling and gathering their belongings from the overhead lockers

Hi Jim,

Great post thanks for the heads up. I think I will be searching for flights with easyJet and Jet2.com before Ryanair from now on

Best regards

Hello andyb and Steve,

What a ripoff ! ! ! ! A, but hold on to your hat ! ! !  I thought I read that the Ryanair changes were starting in November. Steve, if you have booked on Friday then guess what ? the prices are still the same. Will Ryanair survive without you andyb ? My laptop must be different because it is showing Easyjet and Jet2.com very, very expensive compared to Ryanair. Hello there andyb, who will you be flying with after Brexit ?

Most of us living in Spain have lots of time on our hands. Why all this concern about time. Live life - but take it easy.

 Look after yourselves lads.            B

Hi B

I'm sure they will survive without me but as Tescos say ' every little helps'. I fly at least six times a year with a minimum of two others so you are right it's only about 15 fares

I have looked at July flights to Alicante. Ryan and easyJet have not put their flights out yet. But Jet2.com have return flights for £156 for two

Best regards

Andy

Hi Brennie

Due to the cost being £40 I didn't bother booking any hold luggage - if the cost drops from November I might be able to book it then?!
