Hi

Myself and my husband Chris arrive in Almoradi next Sunday morning ,the 1st October.  We are staying in Hotel Almoradi for 1 night and then signing for our apartment there the next day.  We would welcome any advice on getting British TV and internet as this is a priority in our new apartment.  We are very excited and would love to meet anyone as we will hopefully be retiring next year (I'm only 53!) and hope to spend quite a lot of time in Almoradi in the future.  My husband is a big football fan (Spurs) and wants to go to see the local team also.  We like to socialise and are looking forward to visiting the local bars, restaurants and the market. We have a lot of stuff that we need for the apartment too so any advice would be much appreciated. We are also flying out just after Christmas and will be in Almoradi for New Year and are currently learning Spanish.  Thanks in advance.  Shaz x

I probably can't help you, but I think you need to clarify one or two items first.

Is it in an apartment block? Is it mainly British? If so, have the community got a satellite dish giving a feed to each apartment? Has it got a landline telephone feed? If so, is that fibre optic?

There are loads of internet and TV providers; some quite good and some not so good, so you need input from other people in Almoradi.

For telephone & internet, we've stuck with Movistar, who offer quite a lot of options. For TV, we didn't want premium channels, so we've got a satellite dish and receiver for all the free UK channels.

Garaham's website tells you all you need to know about the various TV options:

www.televisiontechnology.eu

Regarding fitting out the apartment, Almoradi is furniture city, so plenty of furniture outlets to look at. If you don't like the Spanish style, then Ikea is half an hour drive away. For electrical items, there are two Tien 21 shops in Almoradi, and MediaMarkt half an hour drive away.

Thank you Jim

Yes we are in an apartment block but don't know much about things there.  We are quite impulsive and loved the apartment.  We had sold our holiday home in Lanzarote and wanted a place to spend time during our imminent retirement (both retired once from the police) and this fitted the bill - so we bought it!!

Visited Almoradi once and fell in love with the place so, fingers crossed, all will be good.

We look forward to meeting like minded people and are excited for next weekend

In my opinion you made a good choice. (I'd have said you've got taste and discernment, but that might annoy all those people who live on the concrete jungle coastal strip - much of which reminds me of Pete Seeger's 'Little Boxes'!).

Almoradi has a lot going for it - Spanish but with a healthy dash of furriners. Lots of facilities and bars, plenty of retail outlets, a good amount of Spanish culture with the theatre etc, sports centre, football team, a well-organised town hall, large and well-organised fiesta parades, etc. During the week it's nice and peaceful, but on Saturday it's heaving as the market is one of only a few in the Southern Costa Blanca which happens on Saturdays, so it draws people in from a large area.

When you're in a position to ask more specific questions, don't hesitate to do so - that's what this forum is all about.

When you're out for a spell, let me know and perhaps we could meet up for a coffee on a Saturday (that's if you're willing to associate with geriatrics!). My wife gets on with everyone, whereas I'm a grumpy old git - role models Victor Meldrew for tact and diplomacy, and Compo for sartorial elegance.

Hopefully!

On Saturday mornings from about 11.45 to 12.30ish, I'm normally to be found lurking outside the heladeria beside the Casino (with the church entrance behind you, it's the pedestrian precinct to the right). If I'm on my own, I'll be sipping on a cafe solo and reading a book on my Kindle, while Margaret and a friend do the market. Then they come back and disturb my peace while I have the second coffee.

Hi,

I'm Sam, a Yorkshire lass and I've been living in Almoradi for over 2 years, I'm happy to help or meet for a chat, PM me if you want my private number.  I'm a football fan (Liverpool) too.  I also speak Spanish and do interpreting work if you need anything like that doing.

We arrive next Sunday and are there for 2 weeks, we have loads stuff to get for our apartment but we are soooo excited.

Would love to catch up if you have time while we are there.

Kindest regards
