Went for our usual coffee and stroll in Guardamar on Sunday and it looked like flood gates had been opened.. The amount of new people there was amazing.. we noted that there were many groups of young people. mainly Spanish, in their 20’s it looked like, walking about before going on the beach which was really busy, and none had masks on or were carrying them, nor were they observing social distancing, so we won’t be surprised that, if this is the trend, that a new wave of the virus arrives, so sadly for the next few weeks, we will stay away.

You and me both, I'm staying well away from the coast. In Albatera most people are obeying the rules and wearing masks so I feel a lot safer.

We live in guardamar and during the week lovely and quite and not to many people but on a Sunday we stay away as people from outside the area  visit  That’s why it’s crowded it’s even worse in August when they all come from a Madrid to their holiday homes

Last time I saw the stats Albatera had had just four cases of infection and one death, numbers like that suggest it could possibly been all the same family.

I rarely go anywhere near the tourist hotpots anyway but doubling down on that now, they can keep their irresponsible behaviour to themselves and if UK gets blacked like the US is about to then you'll hear no complaints from me.

Wot a suprise do you not realise that the rules do not apply to the Spanish , they might makem but certainly don,t follow them and that applies to most  regulations , but woebetide you when you fall foul of them ... welcome to Spanish living ...!!!!

I would be interested on views regarding our situation.  We are UK residents with a holiday home that we were really looking forward to visiting in July.

To date we know of no one, other than a friend living on the costa blanca, who thankfully recovered, who has had this awful virus. Not one person. Our flight looks like going ahead provinding the air corridors are confimed.  However, from what we gather we are not really going to be that welcome in Spain amid fears that we could bring the virus over with us..

Although our 'lockdown' was nowhere as strict as yours, most people, ourselves included, have stuck rigidly to the 2m rule, as it is here, and have not even been into our parents homes since early March.  The crowds at demonstrations and the beach are of course moronic, but also the minority.

If we do come over, will it feel like a holiday?  Are there just too many restrictions to really enjoy it, and most of all, will we feel welcome?

"Is temperature screening effective to detect the coronavirus disease?Temperature screening alone, at exit or entry, is not an effective way to stop international spread, since infected individuals may be in incubation period, may not express apparent symptoms early on in the course of the disease, or may dissimulate fever through the use of antipyretics; in addition, such measures require substantial investments for what may bear little benefits. It is more effective to provide prevention recommendation messages to travellers and to collect health declarations at arrival, with travellers' contact details, to allow for a proper risk assessment and a possible contact tracing of incoming travellers."

This is why I am worried along with other forum members mentioning that cabin staff are continually having to tell passengers that the mask needs to be worn at all times on the flight and not just tucked beneath the chin or just covering the mouth.

The average British town isn't going to be inundated with foreigners in their thousands from all over Europe.....we are, and a lot of us are in, or rapidly approaching the dangerous age range for Covid.

The rules say visitors can come and I would hope that given this, visitors will be welcomed, especially by the bars, restaurants etc and I would hope that the type of visitors we usually attract in the Costa Blanca South will do all they can to abide by the rules but I am so glad I don't live anywhere near Benidorm because the behaviour of some tourists leading up to the lockdown just before St Patrick's day was atrocious.

We will also be receiving many Spanish visitors from areas which have had much higher numbers of infections and deaths.

Time will tell.

Hi julietony,

As someone who sounds sensible and is taking responsible precautions in the UK, you should be able to enjoy your holiday in Spain.  You will have to ensure you have a mask in your bag or pocket at all times, as you will need to wear one if you go into supermarkets, but you only have to wear it outside if you're unable to maintain social distancing of 1.5m.  You will likely see some people who don't adhere even to Spain's strict rules, but the view I take is that if people aren't behaving sensibly, I will leave the vicinity.  This happened to us recently in a bar in Zenia Boulevard - we'd only just got our drinks, so we moved tables when other diners sat too close, but how viable this will be when there are more people here, I don't know.  The best advice I can offer is to do whatever is necessary to keep yourselves safe and on the right side of Spanish law.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

Thank you for your reply. After further discussion hubby thinks the flight is a risk and so has said we shouldn’t go. I think this is the sticking point really as I think like you say if we got to Spain it would be manageable.

We have another flight booked for September so looks like we just have to wait until then.

Enjoy the sunshine for all of us stuck in the UK😎

Hi Julie,

I have to say I'm with your hubby on that one - I could do with going back to the UK to see family and check on my rental property, but the last place I want to be for the foreseeable is on a plane!  At least by September, we'll know whether an influx of summer tourists causes a second wave here.

I read this earlier today - makes you cringe to be British, but hopefully a visit in September may avoid the worst of this kind of behaviour:
