I have an inheritance fund from my parents in a bank in Almoradi and I would like to transfer it to my account here in the UK, my Spanish is very rusty!! so would like someone to help me with all the details. Ideally January 2019, maybe 21st or thereabouts.

Are you sure to have access to the account? The bank will require you to prove ownership of the funds by means of legal title. You will also have to pay inheritance tax. Doing all this from the UK will take a lot of time and money. Much faster if you bring all the documents translated and legalized and hand them to a Notary Public here in Spain. In a week you can get it all done.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. Everything has been transferred into my name since my parents death, the account has actually been sat for over a year now. I just need someone to explain what I want to do, i.e. transfering it to the UK

Hi thank you for your response. My parents lived in Daya Nueva until their death in 2016, everything has been sorted out with the solicitors and the bank is in my name. I just need someone to help me explain in the bank that I would like to transfer the money to my account in the UK. The bank is BMN in Almoradi and I am led to understand that as long as I have my passport etc this should only take an hour or so to sort out.

If the account is now in your name, have you explored the online option? That is to register for online banking and then do an online transfer to your UK account, possibly using a currency agent like Transferwise. I don't know how BMN operate, and they may need you to have an electronic signature for transfers, which you could only get by doing a personal visit to the account, but it's worth trying if you haven't already.

BMN not longer exists. Earlier this year all their business was transferred to Bankia, many branches were shut down and personnel reduced to a minimum. Instead of closing an account I'd recommend to leave a small amount (2,- or less), explaining why would be too extensive. Then, make sure there are no hidden fees - there shouldn't be any but one never nows.

Oops! I'd forgotten about that. If it's Bankia, then a digital signature would be required, and possibly a Spanish mobile number for them to send an SMS.

...not to forget: they also want to scan your personal ID and signing a statement about how you make your money, the latter to charge maintenance fees to your account - it's a rip off

Thank you to everyone for all the help and replies. I think the best thing to do is go to Spain, as this is an investment fund, and visit the bank in person.
