Hi.

Went for a lunch time curry at the Punjabi Palace in Quesada with friends only to find that, after ordering the normal inclusive drink and receiving the inclusive poppadums, we were only then informed that the €10.95 lunchtime menu was not available at the moment and we would have to choose from the main menu at the normal prices, which meant that if we ordered what we normally would receive on the menu del dia, it was going to be a lot more expensive, given that the main reason people go for a curry at lunchtime is that normally it is a very good deal.

The restaurant is still advertising the lunch time menu in the press.

They should put a notice up outside the restaurant to say that this is not the case at the moment and then the choice whether to proceed or leave can be taken before entering.

Many people, as ourselves ,have supported this restaurant and use it all year round.

The food was, as usual, excellent..!!

I can understand that they need to make money up that was lost during lockdown, but doing this will deter people from returning at the moment. We heard other dinners making similar comments.

Just be aware at the moment, this may also be the case in other establishments.

In such case and not knowing in detail the Spanish customer protection laws one is rather helpless. Refusing service of anything published can have serious consequences, so next time ask for a claim sheet, which may also be refused. Then it's time to call the cops as refusal to provide a claim sheet is sufficient for the hangout to be shut down.

Sue, thank you for highlighting this far from satisfactory situation. Others reading here, and intending to patronise that establishment are now forewarned.

In the same way, I don't understand why the establishment could not be more transparent about what it is charging.

Thanks for the heads up Sue222

Maybe if anyone else is subjected to this treatment maybe a way out is to give the waiter the money for the drink and poppadoms and then tell the waiter to have a good day.

RayD. Not everyone goes On line before deciding on a lunchtime meal.

It is very easy to be wise after the event.

The very fact that the alterations from normal pricing was not mentioned until after drinks had been served speaks volumes . This alteration in pricing should have been announced either on a board outside or upon the customers being shown to a table.

That doesn’t mean they knew before hand, they likely had a look on line when they got home, just to see if it was still advertised as such.

Another thing to look out for is ordering snacks or meals advertising free drink and being told you have to order all together, so no free drinks

Hi Ray.

In this restaurant you choose either a chicken or lamb dish from the main menu, there is no separate menu for lunch time. If you want any other dish from the main menu you can have it at the given price.

The fact is that the restaurant is open at lunchtime, the chefs are in the kitchen and the waiting staff ( albeit reduced) are there.

All the food on the extensive menu is available, the fact is that the majority of customers at lunch time opt for the excellent value menu del  dia, many like us who are on pensions which have taken a huge hit recently..

Our normal bill at lunchtime with an extra drink is €26. If we had ordered exactly the same on our visit the bill would have been over €40. The same with our friends who had travelled a distance ( in the same province!,)

We are not penny pinching and always enjoy the excellent food. This is not an issue.
