Hi I wondered if  anybody knew anything about pensioners getting two free holidays a year..... I am now 66,and receiving my state pension from England. I am a Spanish resident, and have just been told about this, but I must admit I was a bit sceptical, as I hadn't heard of this. Can anybody confirm if this is so and if it is : Are there any stipulations, and how would I go about getting the holidays. Is it just the Spanish mainland? Or anywhere such as the Canaries and Bealeric Islands.

I can't say that I've heard of that one Biff.

The Spanish pensioners get heavily subsidised holidays around October time. Its called the Imserso scheme sponsored by the Spanish government. I understand that if you are a fully legal resident you may also be entitled to participate in the scheme.

Where did you hear about the "free" holidays?

HI there,

Members of the European Community countries who are retired and residents can apply to go on these holidays.

I don't think that people from third countries are eligible.

Free holidays, never heard of them.

From the website:

Imserso is the holiday scheme for pensioners sponsored by the Spanish Government. During the off-peak season, from October to June, cheaper holidays are made available to resident pensioners in Spain, "whatever their nationality"

If you are a full legal resident then you are eligible.

Hi there I have a Spanish friend who lives in Madrid and he and his wife go on a couple of trips a year which I understand are subsidized ( not free) by the Spanish government for senior citizens. I know for a fact that this Sunday he is going on such a trip to Tenerife for a week.
