Hi Guys and Girls
I am just wondering if anyone pays their Spanish bills by direct debit from a UK bank
I have an apartment and was wondering if I should find another way to pay my electric water and other bills in a way I don't need to keep a Spanish bank account

Sue try Wise ( used to be called Transfer wise) you can pay direct debits through them. They are a Belgium based company now because of Brexit but as they are in the EU the SEPA ( direct debit service ) is straightforward. I pay my electric bills in Spain to Nordic Energy via them.

I will look at this as I think it's time to dispose of Spanish bank sadly after 20 yrs
Fees are going up and when any changes come in they expect you to visit branch or they freeze it and it's not always possible to get over also no replies to emails from them

I have heard some are using their own banks in UK for the bills so I'll also look at this
One would expect the Spanish banks to keep all sweet because they will end up with many leaving

Ok good luck do your research check the exchange rate with UK banks etc ..a lot of people now use Wise I find it really good ..you get a much better rate

Yes ..You just open an account on their app ..... You will be given an IBAN number which you will need for direct debits which you give to the Spanish companies electric water You woul be best to set up a GBP and Euro Account with Wise as you are going to need to pay money in to cover your direct debits. Rather than pay this in in dribs and stand you would be best paying a larger sum in as of course there are charges but the exchange rate is much better you receive and the charges you pay are less
