Reporting hotel fire safety concerns
I was in a hotel in Madrid recently and had concerns about fire safety.
Due to the layout of the building, the fire-doors on each of the seven floors had been de-coupled from the self-closing mechanism and jammed open. I presume this had been done to reduce the noise of the doors closing from guests using the lift.
To compound matters, the single escape stairwell servicing the building was located between the open fire-doors and was constructed of highly-varnished wood.
I’m not a fire officer, nor do I know if the de-coupling of the fire-doors is in some way acceptable in Spain, so on my return home, I emailed the Madrid Mayor’s office and the Madrid Fire Brigade HQ, detailing my concerns and attaching photographs.
It’s been three weeks since the first email; and a full week since a repeat was sent, without even an acknowledgement, or a note that they would inspect the property.
Does anyone have any suggestions or contact points, that may help ?
I’m not going to identify the hotel at this time, as I would prefer the proper authorities to investigate.
