In a word - no!

Hopefully someone will be able to point you in the right direction, but every return I've seen that has been done by 'professionals' has had at least one significant error in it.

For examples, using the Dec 31st exchange rate, not treating annuity payments correctly, and not applying for relief of tax paid in the UK.

I've been doing tax returns for ourselves and for friends for some years now, and although it's a bit daunting at first, once you know what you're doing, it's quite straightforward. Especially so once you're first return has gone in, as all the personal information required in subsequent returns is already in the system.

For the returns I did in early April, I spent several hours sussing out the system, which had changed quite a bit from previous years, but actually doing the returns didn't take many minutes as, in the case of someone who just has pensions and savings income, and wasn't in government employment in the UK, there are only two boxes on the return in which to enter figures, then your bank details on the final page.

For someone who's reasonably computer literate, I'd always recommend doing it yourself.

The deadline for 2016 returns is June 29th, and most people will have already done their returns, but when the 2017 returns come due, I'm intending to write up a dummy's guide to the actual tax system, including how to access and complete the return, and post it on this forum.
