How good is the public transportation in and around the Altea area? We  are coming in the fall as longtime residents and Would like to avoid the hassle of having to buy a car or pay high car rental charges. Can we reasonably expect to get around using the buses and other public transportation?

We have lived in Altea for over four years, do not have a car and don't want one. Walking distance away are two supermarkets, a train station, a #10 bus stop, two pharmacies, a veterinarian, the health care centre, a laundromat and the seafront. There are plenty of shops and you can get almost anything you want. If you want a wider selection of restaurants Albir is a 10-minute bus ride away. Benidorm is a 12-minute train ride (once per hour) or a 45-minute bus ride every 15 or 20 minutes. If you want to explore inland you could rent a car. Parking in Altea is not fun. If you live in Altea La Vella or La Olla you will need a car.

That's my two céntimos' worth. Good luck!

Thank you so much, this is tremendous news! My understanding is that it’s a nightmare finding an affordable place to rent long-term there, but if you have any suggestions whatsoever, I would be indebted to you!
