I would appreciate comments on the current Covid situation in Altea including:

1.  New cases over last two weeks or so

2.  Prevalence of Delta variant

3.  Percentages of Altea residents who are fully and partially vaccinated

4.  Are most people wearing masks when in indoor public places?

We will be in Altea for six weeks beginning September 2.  Thanks for your help.

Hello

If you're not coming until Sept - I would suggest asking at the end of August, all those  things change on a daily/weekly basis, also keep reading all the Valencian Government  regional announcements

Cheers

I would suggest that if you are looking for such detailed information to look at the town hall Facebook page.

Other sources would be the Valencian region page

http://coronavirus.san.gva.es/es/estadisticas

Or the Government Health Page

https://www.mscbs.gob.es/

But Altea is a busy tourist destination, so even if all the residents are fully vaccinated it wouldn’t make it a safer place to be, because of tourism. Both the surrounding municipalities  of Calpe and Benidorm look set to have a curfew reimposed this weekend

CV have started vaccinating the 20-29 year olds this week and have announced that by the time the schools reopen in September they are hoping that all the over 12 year olds will have been jabbed.

As regards to wearing masks indoors  - well yes everyone is wearing a mask. It’s only been a couple of weeks since the use of masks outdoors was stopped and many people are so used to putting a mask on as soon as they leave home, it’s now become a habit.

Good advice above about checking closer to your date, at present cases of infection have doubled in the past week to 91.

The rules at present concerning mask wearing is that everyone must wear a mask indoors of public spaces. Outdoors you can remove the mask only if you can maintain a distance of 1.5 m from people, which is not possible walking around most of the streets during busy times. Most of us locals have maintained wearing masks outdoors and it seems to be tourist who disregard the 1.5m rule. Complaints had been made to the local police and they have assured citizen that will be issuing fines for anyone not wearing a mask who is unable to maintain a safe distance. The police have also stated that to walk out without a mask ready on your person is an offence and they will fine people. I have yet to see this happen as the police presence if thin on the ground.

Curfews are being applied for some towns where infections are on the increase and I was informed that Altea could well be next on the list if our cases increase. I have no data about how many of the cases in Altea are the new variant, however as these viruses are constantly mutating I'm sure we will be hearing of more variants of concern.

I'm not sure why there is such a rush to ditch the wearing of masks as until we are all safe, none of use are safe and simple hygiene, distance observants and mask wearing will help prevent more variants developing.

As mentioned above the vaccination programme is progressing very well in Altea and by the the end of the first week of September the majority will be completely vaccinated which includes the teenagers.

Hope this helps, have a good trip
