Hi all

I know some of you have already responded to my earlier post, but just to say I have now moved to Altea and looking to find new friends.

I will be at the art cafe on Thursday evening for Spanish convo, so hope to meet some of you there.

Look forward to it!

Lorna

Hi Lorna, my wife Robin and I plan to move there next year. In our 50s. I write and sing, Robin's a teacher. Would enjoy meeting. How did you find your rental? Any tips and things to avoid? Any help would be appreciated!

Ola,I am wanting to move also to altea on my own late December ,it's a nightmare trying to find a long term rental , have just come back  to the UK but going out again ,spoke to lots of people most of whom said to come back out and speak to local people rather than going through the agents as they charge a fee for finding you a property ??good luck

Hi all

Not sure what prompted this flurry of activity on a year-old post. Haha ! But nice to meet you all.

I am well settled in Altea and have had a fantastic first year. I’ve met some a amazing people here. My advice would be, if you already have a little Spanish you want to practice, to go to the intercambios (language exchanges). There’s two here. One above the library (casa Cultura) every Tuesday and Friday early evening at 5:30; and one at AlteArte mojiteria Bar in the Old Town every Thursday from 8pm.

These two groups are where I’ve met most of my current friends. If you don’t yet have any Spanish, pop up to AlteArte anyway, any evening - it’s so easy to meet people and make friends there. Sara and David are American and Spanish respectively and it’s a fave hangout for us foreigners in the community here.

Note: AlteArte is in calle Concepcion in the old town and is not to be confused with The art Cafe in the newer part near Mercadona! (I did the first time!)

The other way I’ve made friends is by taking Spanish lessons at the Social centre. There are others around town too.

Te: Long term rentals - yes join this and other Fb forums for searching for potential places. It does tend to be word of mouth here. BUT I found mine thru a lovely agent whose fee was very reasonable. Check out Elena at HomeAlbir.com (speaks English).

Good luck. Happy to be contacted when you arrive for coffees/introductions

Regards

Lorna
