Mascarat / pueblo mascarat help!

If you look at this link, you will see that it is quite costly to get to the airport and back by taxi and on google maps it looks like quite a trek uphill from the supermarket.
You will have much more freedom with a car and it's quite straightforward from the airport and if you search this site for car hire, there is a great guide from UKHandyMan4Hire. Make sure you book it  and buy CDW insurance before you arrive

Mascarat is at the bottom of a very steep hill. It's a long way from Altea town, I would say unwalkable in the summer, (and the winter!) and even walking up to the main road you will be drained! The nearest supermarket is Mas y Mas at the top of the hill on the N332.

However Mascarat is pretty and has stunning ocean views. Driving in Spain isn't as bad as some people make out so I would say definitely hire a car, you wont regret doing so. Without a car you will be isolated and certainly won't get the best from your holiday. From the motorway exit at 64 Mascarat is just two minutes away on the 332. Before you book, check out the do's and dont's of car hire elsewhere on the forum.

you will need a car to live there, there is a small super-market on top of the hill, but the hill is very steep and would be hard to walk in summer.  Taxis are possible but not cheap, better to look either in the centre of Altea or Albir.  I used to live just outside Altea and it was not easy without a car, now I live in Albir and everything is a walk away.  Good luck

Yes it quite a way out ..not sure about taxis there but radio cars is good
