Hi,

We are a family hoping to buy a property in Altea in the future. We would like a modern 2/3 bed property with access to a shared pool. We are really hoping to be in walking distance to Altea old town and the marina. Do properties like this exist? The ones we have found online seem to be further away :(

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to help with our query.

Take care x

As rdudden says Altea is busy in the summer. But many people love Altea so much it's why they don't want to be in Benidorm or Calpe !! And many people are actually prepared to pay more to live in such a beautiful unspoilt Spanish town.

So.......having got that out of the way.... yes, properties of the type you mention do exist although there are few that offer an easy walk to the Old Town. A lot of property in your target area never makes it to Rightmove and Zoopla etc.

If I was looking for that specific location and property I would visit the many estate agents in the town and give them a specific brief of what you're looking for. If you are serious about buying, get your NIE and bank account in place, and tell the agents that they are in place, something that gives them confidence that you're not just window shopping. Some agents you will never hear from but the good ones will look for your property and offer you properties to look at online (assuming you are in the UK).

Once you have a number of options to look at, plan a viewing trip and while on that trip keep your eyes peeled for other urbanisations and for sale signs.

Most of the urbanisation with pools are a long walk from the old town so you might end up having to compromise a bit. But there are several in the promenade area to the north before the Algar bridge for example, and to the south of the promenade on the Albir side. Either leave a fairly steep walk up to the Old Town but might be the compromise you end up making.

Good luck!

Steve

Many thanks Steve for taking the time to reply and giving such thorough information. I will study it this morning!

We have flights booked for later in the year and plan to pop into agents while we are in Altea.

I look forward to exploring the area more! Take care and enjoy your day.

Kind regards, Clare x

I dont know if you are still searching but we just bought in Pueblo Mascarat. I really like that its a very short drive to Altea but we have the beach and the Greenwich Marina in walking distance. We searched in winter to avoid the dead towns and the Marina is still pretty busy with bars and restaurants open then. We are in the Altea Dorado complex which has a stunning pool and beautifully maintained gardens. We find the service charges really reasonable. There are other complexes there with all kinds of prices from frontline million euro homes down to small apartments in the low 100,000. We bought in February and we are really pleased.

Hi

We moved out to Altea from the UK 18 months ago and we absolutely love living in Altea.

Back in 2007 we had the opportunity to live in the area and rented a property in Mascarat. Although the area and views were great, we found it to far from Altea and needed the car all the time. Therefore, we narrowed down our search to Altea town itself and we had an extensive tick box of “must haves” which included; parking, swimming pool, minimum of three bedrooms, reasonable size property and walking distance of the centre of town.

We found that not many properties met our tick list, although there were two main areas that did have property that did. The first was up near the Palau de Altea and the other apartments we liked were in the Garganes area of altea.

We opted for the Garganes and bagged a large apartment that has met all of our needs and more.

I find the following site useful, although some of the location are not correct, so a little cross checking is advisable

 https://www.idealista.com/en/point/venta-viviendas/38.60222/-0.04625/15/con-precio-hasta_360000,precio-desde_140000,metros-cuadrados-mas-de_100,pisos,de-tres-dormitorios,de-cuatro-cinco-habitaciones-o-mas,dos-banos,tres-banos-o-mas,garaje,piscina/mapa-google

Good luck with your search.

Best regards

Jeff

Good advice from Jeff. It's also worth remembering that the old town, including the Placa de l'Esglesia around the Church is busy and vibrant in the summer season but in winter it's very quiet in the evenings. Quite a few of the bars and restaurants close or go onto winter hours. It's a very special place but no matter how much I love it I'm not sure I'd want to live up there given the contrast between the seasons.

Living in the lower part gives you paseo walks, sea by your side and shops/restaurants that have a slightly less seasonal approach. The Old Town then becomes a "treat".

Depending how hard and fast your criteria are you could have a look at Altea la Vieja or on the golf course there at Don Cayo. Very beautiful but maybe more car dependent than Altea itself.

Happy hunting! Steve
