Hello: My name is Inez.  I am a single American female who will be retiring from a government career at the end of the summer 2020 and was

thinking of renting an apartment in Altea over the winter months( October -June).  As I am not familiar with Altea but have been reading

the different posts on this forum, would Altea be very quiet during these winter months ; are there enough activities, clubs, bars, as well as,

people to meet as I do speak Spanish.

On a different note,  I have spoken with an estate agent who is looking for the entire 8-9 months rent upfront.  Is this the norm to pay the

entire rent upfront?  If any of you could recommend who and how I would go about finding a rental (furnished) for approx. 6-8 months, I would greatly appreciate your help/assistance.  Thank you so much and looking forward to meeting you for a coffee, drink(gin and tonic being

 my favorite!) Saludos, Inez

Hi Inez this agent is not genuine ! I don't know of anywhere that requests six months rent in advance. Give this agent a wide berth ! In other words do Not pay him Any money what's so ever !

Find a different agent.

Be careful there's too many Rogues about !

Good luck

Altea as you're probably aware is very busy in the summer months but it still functions fully in the winter too. Plenty bars and restaurants remain open. It's primarily a Spanish town populated by Spanish people.

I have also heard that 6 months in advance is requested to stop tenants moonlighting after a few weeks. I don't however know if this is legal so get advice from people. If you're planning to be in Altea for that length of time you'll need Residencia after 90 days so it might be worth appointing a Gestor who can help you with the application when it falls due but also answer questions now regarding the correct legal procedure for renting and letting re contracts and payments.

Good luck with your move, Steve
