I am looking for an apartment  to buy in Altea. I love the old town but not sure about the noise levels. I would love a have a nice view and to be able to walk to shops and not have to depend on the car. Any helpful info will be much appreciated.

Susie I can well understand why you like the old town. It is a little noisy with pedestrian traffic in the summer season, people leaving bars and restaurants late etc. But it's quite a short season actually and by October it begins to return to normal. Winter months are very quiet there.

Also bear in mind that without a car you would need to rely on your fitness levels as it's a strong walk up and down as you get a little older! If I was buying without a car I'd be tempted to look at the lower part of the town closer to the main shops, but then the main town is busy all year round.

Happy hunting!  Steve

Thank you for the pointers Steve, I appreciate them.

I feel that this forum is very helpful and that I might get lucky and find this guardian angel who has a place for sale or connects me to to the right person who is not a greedy agent.

I had a property there for 11 years Susie. My solicitor and notario are both just a mile away in Albir. They are excellent and if you ever want the contact details just let me know.

The agent will only "rip off" the vendor by charging a high commission compared to what we are used to in the UK. You should budget for around 13% on top of your agreed price to cover taxes, fees and utility transfers. Never use a solicitor recommended by the agent.

It's possible to get a reduction on asking price even in Altea, depending on the vendor circumstances. Also be aware that often vendors will inflate the asking price in the hope that someone will agree it. Altea perhaps not so much because as you will know it attracts a bit of a value premium due to its popularity and exclusivity.

Thanks. It’s the trickiest thing that I need help with .... that’s finding the apartment.

I have received a lot of links for the port area but I have concerns regarding noise because I’m sure it’s a busy area esp during the summer months. However the good part might be that it’s within walking distance to shops and other places.

Sadly I cannot come over for long but I’m in and out of Spain and know my way around. However I’m not that familiar with Altea.

Can someone please enlighten me with regards to differences between Altea La Vella and other parts of the city. I know where Altea Hills is situated but not Altea La Vella. Also are there anywhere shopping areas in Mascarat. It looks like a nice place but I what else is there other than the apartments themselves.

Someone says there is a bus from Altea Hills coming to town, is that a private shuttle bus for residents?

I’m coming over in a few weeks and need to compile a viewing list which will make sense and cater to what I need.

Thanking you in advance for your input
