Obtaining a replacement NIE paper / card

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone new how I can get a replacement copy NIE paper.

I already obtained the NIE no approx 14 years ago - but need to open a new bank account and Bankia are insisting on a copy of the NIE paper.

Someone has suggested going to the police station in Benidorm with my passport ?

Anyone been through the process ?

Forms / photos needed ?

Time it takes ?

Can I go to any major police station as parking in Benidorm as parking is a nightmare and will be visiting in Gandia so possibly pop in there ?

There isn't any formal means of obtaining a copy of an NIE. However, there's nothing to stop you asking - at any national police station. As you're not resident it might be easier to ask a Spanish consulate in the UK.

Hi Harvey, and welcome to the Forum.

Its definitely a good idea to make a couple of copies of any official documentation, and if Non Resident ,keeping one of those copies back home at your Permanent Residence.

That being said, and in reply to requested advice as to paperwork required, I would say 2 copies of the relevant Application form, Your passport ( minimum of 6 months validity remaining), a photocopy of your passport details page and a passport sized photo.

Others may have further advice on that, . Good luck with the Application

The problem, Les, is that there isn't an application form of any sort for obtaining a copy of an NIE. But I agree with you about the supporting documents.

Thanks Jim,

I am no expert on these things . Yourself ,or someone who has gone through the process of obtaining a replacement NIE would be more qualified to give guidance, however, I would have as a guess a standard N.I.E.Application form would have to be completed ,and the existing N.I.E. number,( if known), be included.
