Yes, it is different as Ireland is in the EU and UK isn't. UK citizens require a visa before coming to Spain to apply for residency, Irish citizens do not
There are many (many many many ) posts on here about applying for residency as either a EU or UK citizen but, to start with, a UK citizen requires an annual income of around 30,000 euro a year and a further 7,500 euro a year for any dependants.
If retired and in receipt of a pension, you can transfer you healthcare to an EU country and go on to their health system at the same of a national, in Spain that is free with a small percentage to pay for prescriptions. If not in receipt of a pension then you must have private health insurance.
On top of that you must show you are m healthy, with a doctor's health certificate saying you haven't got any communicable diseases, a proof of good character with a police criminal background check and then not leave Spain for more than a total of 10 months in the first 5 years which will be classed as temporary residence.
You also cannot take up employment with the Non Lucrative Visa which is the most common type of visa for those retiring.
