I live in Altea and pay my tax monthly by direct debit. It normally comes out of my bank account on 6/7th of each month.

It was not taken in April and again in May. Does anyone have the same experience or know why? Is it suspended because of CVirus and will it be backdated eventually?

Thank you. Margarita.

Please clarify what tax you are talking about. Resident income tax is taken in two payments in July and November.

Hi Jim. It is the IBI (impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles) ; Property tax paid to the SUMA..

I pay it monthly and have done for 4 years now. No payments taken yet for April or May.

Margarita.

OK, understood. For things like road tax, Suma have extended the payment deadline by several weeks, so I'd guess they've probably also done that if you're on the monthly IBI option.

If you want to check, you can either make an online query, or ring them and ask for an English speaker. Details are in:

Thank you, Jim. You are almost certainly right.

I’d better not spend the money on new shoes!

Margarita.

Much better spending it on wine!

And remember that life is too short to drink cheap wine.
