We use Expat Services for everything we need.  They are based at La Zenia and Jose is very helpful.

He can definitely do tax returns here as he will be doing ours next year as residents.  We also have a property in the UK which is rented and tax on the rental is taken at source by the letting agent.  Give them a call on +34 621257065 and then Jose can discuss your needs with you.

We became Spanish residents last year so this is the first time we have had the UK rental property taxed and it was a sizeable in proportion to our income.  We believe we can put a claim in to HMRC to receive personal tax allowances but not sure .. hence we need someone who has expertise or experience in this explicit field?

How does the letting agent know your tax code, allowance etc, and do they then pay the tax they have deducted to HMRC?

Hi, the letting agent pays the tax on behalf of my husband so they have the details to be able to do that.  If you apply to the HMRC as an overseas landlord on an NLR1 form, they then send a code to the letting agent so they don't take the tax at source.  You are then responsible for declaring the rent through self assessment.  Using self assessment allows you to deduct insurance, maintenance fees etc from your annual rental which you can't do if your rent is taxed at source.
