Amongst an already disreputable industry Gold Car are particularly well known for such shenanigans.

Unfortunately without cast iron proof that the alleged damage was not there when she returned the car (clear photos or a signed off return note) I'm afraid she's probably stuffed.

Short of a letter from a lawyer, which will likely cost as much as the lost deposit, don't expect Gold Car to respond to any correspondence.

They were recently in Business section of UK Times for charging people over a Thousand Euro for late pickups

Hi that company have been reported doing this for a good many years. They charge several times for the same damages. I think it will be difficult to prove unless you have photos before it left their site and similar on the return of the vehicle. Gold car have been highlighted for this unscrupulous way of trading over the last 10 years. Look up named and shamed F,B in Costa Blanca and you might gain some information of how to deal with them ! Good luck .

Yes Gold are rip off merchants, kept €1200 deposit few years ago for no reason. Lucky I had taken out car access insurance with
[email protected] who refund me €1100 I never hire without taking insurance protection on line now.

They're all as bad as each other, that's why I have separate CDW insurance and pay by credit card. I also book full/ full and always take pictures before and after, and insist they sign off the car on returning it. You should only ever get mugged once!!

Didn’t she take photos at time of hire. In the past they have hit me for 220 Euro for changing a punctured tyre.
Gold car hit me with various taxes when I was there three weeks ago, including 15 Euros for putting a higher grade diesel in the tank. I’m totally fed up with the hire car system in Spain. We are seriously getting ripped off. 

Hi I have just returned home on Saturday after two weeks property hunting ,after returning my car to gold I was presented with a accident report for an alleged accident accompanied with a vague photo of a scratch.

This company spends ages trying to sell u extra insurance when u pick up keys,I had taken photos of car on return and have told them if the pursue the €165 clam I will take it up with credit card company.

I would avoid these cowboys at all costs. There are no pre checks when u pick up u sign an electronic form before u are given keys showing marks on car as we had data roaming switched off we didn’t even see it till we arrived at destination.

I have lost count of the number of bad reviews i have read about Gold Car. I don’t understand why people use them, the poor reviews are posted everywhere. At Alicante i always use Lara Cars as they include insurance with no excess. No need to check the car, or buy separate excess cover. Pick up and return is simple too.
