My wife and I have recently arrived in Altea and are looking to settle / retire here. One factor under consideration is weather in particular how frequent and how strong the wind is here. My wife has asthma and strong persistent winds do cause her problems. We did a lot of research on this topic before coming however since our arrival a little over a week a go now we have found the wind fairly persistent and stronger than the research we did had indicated. For now we are staying in Altea Hills is this area more known for these conditions and are there areas of Altea that are more protected. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

Hi,

It all depends on where you want to live in or around Altea. We live in the Garganes area near the schools and at times it can get very windy for long periods. Friends of ours on the other side of Altea near the tram station have less wind.

Hope this helps

Jeff

One of the reasons I came to Spain is because it would supposedly be a better climate for Asthma, my asthma has not improved in the slightest.

The air quality because of the heat and humidity can quite often be poor/unhealthy and in winter the houses are often damp with black mold forming.

Having said this I would still rather be here in Spain than in the UK.

Good luck I hope you find a happy solution to your enquiries.

Thank you it is difficult to find the ideal location for asthma in the end we just need to live with it and manage it as best as we can. Good to see you still feel Altea is a good place to live

Altea is a lovely place to live but it's fairly windy/breezy all along the Costa Blanca coast. We have the fairly constant "Benidorm breeze"

But as Paolo has said, I'd much rather be here than the UK!!

Yes, it is windy all along the coast. If you move inland you will find that there is not so much wind, also the humidity is not as high.

Thank you Steve, am starting to appreciate the wind is a constant but on average would you think it blows below 30kmh or higher than that? We moved from France ( Cote d’Azur region) where winds were often 60 - 80+ with gusts well over 100kmh and this would go for 3 -5 days at a time. Is Costa Blanca winds as much as that in general?

Thank you Tebo I guess it’s a trade off between sea view but winds or Mountain View’s and less winds gives us something to think about

Hi,

No, the winds are not that high generally. I would call it a breeze here in Benidorm at around 4 to 7 kph at this time of year. It can get exceptionally windy to gale force in the worse winter months though that can last several days.
