Where are you? You've posted in the san miguel section, but you have Benidorm next to your name.
Near san miguel is:
Installation of trailer hooks for automobiles (enganchespacheco.es)

Great place, you can book an appointment via email if your Spanish isn't up to a phone call.
Oops don’t know how benidorm is there but I am in San Miguel and don’t speak Spanish but thanks for your advice

Just use google translate to send them an email. They were very quick to reply to me and the price was reasonable. As it's an English car you won't need a receipt and paperwork for the approval so it should be cheaper still.
Thanks Dazz

Take care with the paperwork. I had a UK fitted EU approved towbar fitted to my Jeep and they would not pass it on the ITV unless it was removed. It had to be fitted in Spain, no arguments. Believe me I tried.
The fact that I had all the EU harmonisation paperwork and an EU approved label stuck on it made no difference.
And there was me thinking that Spain was in the EU.
That’s dazz

Hi Jayne, I have also heard of cars being imported with fitted tow bars without a problem. I thought initially that it was the ITV centre making up it's own rules so I checked with my insurance company and they confirmed that If it stayed on it would invalidate my insurance.
Personally it think it's utterly ridiculous. What is the difference between an EU certified tow bar fitted in the UK and one fitted in Spain? Just another example of jobs for the boys in Spain.
They are happy enough to pull billions of Euros out of the EU but not willing to obey their rules.

HI Jayne, sadly I have just renewed my policy with Abbeygate.
I have the option to refit the towbar and take it to another ITV station and see what happens . The one that I used previously is known to be a bit pedantic.
If it gets passed it will say towbar fitted on the test cert which I can then send to the insurers. Maybe worth a try later.
I really miss it as I use it for my trailer to take rubbish to the tip.

It needs to be listed on your Ficha Technica. If the person who registered the car onto Spanish plates had an engineers report to say it was fitted correctly then it can be added when the car is being matriculated.
There are companies that will inspect and certify a pre fitted towbar so it can be added to the ficha Technica, but the costs are almost as much as having a new one fitted, around €250.
Have you tried taking your towbar to a fitting place to see if they will fit and certify it? It shouldn't cost to much as everything is already in place. It does need to have the metal plate fitted that has the model number and "E" number certification on it other wise no one can certify it.
