On Thursday I visited the public transport office and applied for my Citizen Card/Bus Pass.

Any Citizen registered in Torrevieja, can request the CITIZEN CARD to make use of urban public transport in Torrevieja buses. This card is also valid for free access to floating museums.

How to obtain and renew the Citizen Card.

Location, The public transport office located inside the building of La Plasa Mercado Central Torrevieja from 8.30am to 13.30pm Monday to Friday.

Requirements, To be registered (Padron) in Torrevieja and have no debt to the local administration.

Fee, 7 Euro, Renewal annually at Zero cost.

Documentation Required, I.D, N.I.E, Residence Card, Passport, all original, not copies.

On my first visit = Thursday, I queued up for 15 minutes, I was called into the office and in broken Spanish I asked if I could apply for the Bus Pass, The gentleman behind the desk understood what I had said and asked me for my Padron to which he scrutinised and copied, on giving me back my Padron he also gave me a bank payment requirement forms to go to the local banks stipulated on the form to make my payment of 7 Euro and then gave me a appointment to return the next day. I went to the bank and paid the 7 Euro in cash and was given a stamped receipt of the payment I had made.

At the appointment time the next day = Friday, my payment and I.D was scrutinised, all was well and in place, I was then asked to sit and have my photograph taken and minutes later I was given my new Citizen Card photo I.D card.

The Urban Transport currently covers La Mata, Las Torretas, Las Lomas, Rocio del Mar, Los Balcones, Los Altos and San Luis.

The Spanish Gentleman was very helpful and as long as you tried to communicate in Spanish you should be ok, also remember forms of I.D and Padron required and use the banks stipulated on the payment forms.

Hello

Just to add to the above post...2 x buses to La Mata (different routes), + on Fridays the Line H goes from the bus interchange to Torrevieja Market  and back to town. You can still pick up a bus timetable in the Tourist Information Bureau, the current one is valid until May 2021

Cheers

This seems good. We tried to get ours in 2019, and gave up after 4 attempts - each time, the gentlemen at the desk told us just one thing we needed, then told us the next thing on the following visit .. even though I had a reasonable go at asking in Spanish!

So hopefully, things have moved on from then and it’s worth trying again.

Does anyone know if there’s an electronic means of carrying out the annual renewal, rather then having to go to the office in person every year? That would be really helpful. Thank you.

What a fandango, can't be doing with all this toing and froing and go here and take this there the Spanish seem to love, why can't they just issue the card on the first visit.

Hello,

The renewal of the citizens/bus card is done in the office & takes less than 5mins - they do, briefly need your card. In the busier months in normal years you might get an appt to come back but this year, in mid Aug, it was immediate

Hello Patric

The Torrevieja bus card scheme doesn't specify any age group - if you are registered  on the Torrevieja padron & have a residencia or TIE card you can apply.

All the buses on the A - H routes have a drop down step at the middle doors for wheelchair/mobility access.... you can ask the driver to operate this if necessary.

Anyone accompanying you would also need a Bus/Citizens card  or they would have to pay the fare which , for those buses I mentioned, is currently  €1.35 each journey

Cheers

Simples, you are in a different country with different cultures and ways of doing things.

The quicker you open your mind and accept that every country in the world is different to England, the much easier you will settle in to the way of life and enjoy it.

I am writing this in a positive way to help you understand that all countries are different.

I hope that helps you.

Hello

You have to have proof that you are a resident here with Residencia ( old A4  Paper or Card), or the new TIE card + Padron , NIE, Passport etc. If you have all of these I can give you further details of office location etc.

Cheers
