Hi. I am thinking about bringing my car to Spain and using it here as my full time car. Im not a resident but frequent visitor to my holiday home. Im trying to gauge pitfalls to advantagies.

Do things properly and contact Leigh at https://www.spanish-number-plates.com/

With passports now being stamped there will be a record of when you have entered and left Spain and if you come by air it will be blindingly obvious that the car is kept here. You would also have to take it back to the UK every year for its MOT and the insurance could become null and void if you have not given them the full picture. Neither insurance companies or the police are stupid.

Hi Ronnie777

We looked at bringing the wifes Astra across but the costs now are very expensive plus with it being a right hand drive again causes issues if your not a competant driver.

We ended up buying a 4 year old Ford C-Max left hand drive spanish car, it was very expensive for what it was but over time it will repay rather than renting or importing and I have to say its so much easier.

Basically what I am saying is bite the bullet purchase in Spain and look at it as long term plan, we wont change this for a good few years as it wont clock many miles up, I paid 10k would imagine so 2k a year plus costs it will cost a heck of a lot more to rent over the 4-6 months we spend there.

All the best

Andrew
