My laptop runs with Windows7 home premium with Firefox as the browser. My email is Yahoo.  This combination has worked for years.

When starting an email and when you put the first letter into the  'To' line a box appeared with all your contacts with the same first letter.  It was then just a matter of clicking on the one you want and their email address appeared in the 'To' line.

This has now stopped happening and it's a real pain having to copy and paste addresses from earlier emails.

I have not made any intentional changes to the Yahoo Mail, the auto suggest just disappeared one day.

Can anyone suggest what has gone wrong and how I can get it back?  Searches on line have proved fruitless.

Below link is from an old thread but might steer you in the right direction, could you try logging into your mail with another browser, maybe Opera or something and see if Yahoo autofill works with that, if autofill works with Opera this would point to it being a browser / Firefox problem rather than a Yahoo problem.

Well, I have downloaded Opera but Auto Suggest  still does not come up.  I have also tried Google with the same result.  It seems there is Auto Suggest that applies to email and Auto Fill that applies to forms etc, I have never used that.

Seeing I can't get it with three different browsers, my logic seems to suggest the problem lies with Yahoo Mail itself.  What are your thoughts?

Having tried to access Yahoo help in the past I just about lost the will to live.  It is virtually impossible to trawl you way through hundreds of pages of questions to find what you want and equally impossible to post a question of your own. These sites deliberately send you round and round in circles just to break your will.

More suggestions welcome.

Regardless of browser Yahoo mail auto fills from your contacts which is simply a list of everyone you have ever written an email to.
If you are using Yahoo basic mail then if you click on the + at the RH end of the To box it should bring up a list of all contacts. If using the newest Yahoo mail then the list is brought up from the first icon on the right under your user name.
Does that happen?

In my Yahoo mail just under my name in the top right corner there is a small rectangle which is my contacts folder, if you open that are your contacts still there ?.

You could take a look at Yahoo help pages below.

Darro, I'm not sure which version of Mail I am on.  There is no + sign at the end of the To line, just the cc options.

I can't see my user name, where does that appear?

NigelF  That's the problem, it used to bring up suggestions with the same first letter you have just typed.  It stopped a few days ago.  All my contacts are still there if I click on the little rectangle at the top right..

If I click on the word To it brings up a contacts box but it's empty.  There is a greyed out option at the bottom of the box to Deselect all.   I have not seen that box before today.

I have just noticed that there is an option box to upgrade Mail at the top RH corner.  If I did that could that cure the problem?

Hi, the upgrade option at the top right is for paid for e mail (£4.99 pm) and i doubt that would fix the problem, could you try deleting a particular contact then add them as a contact, once done try composing an e mail and see if it auto completes their address, i know its a long shot but running out of suggestions.

You could also try deleting cookies and cache for Yahoo held in Firefox.

  • Click the menu button and select Settings.
  • Select the Privacy & Security panel and go to the Cookies and Site Data section.
  • Click the Manage Data… button. The Manage Cookies and Site Data dialog will appear.
  • In the Search websites field, type the name of the site whose cookies you want to remove ie yahoo. Items that match your search will be displayed.
  • Select delete all, restart Firefox and try Yahoo mail again.

Sadly I still don't have a resolution to this problem.. I have tried multiple suggestions from multiple people. So I'm still without my pop up name suggestions.

Any help will be warmly welcomed.
