Hi Jo,
Something’s you need to consider when thinking about sites;
Some sites do not allow pets, (dogs really), others do?. Some sites have better facilities, clubhouse, pools, bars, shop, shower blocks etc... and pitch size and facilities? Some sites are closer to town than others? Some are located in quieter areas? Some are very large and some are smaller.
I can only offer my opinion of the sites. We usually stay when in Benidorm in Camping Raco, we take a large pitch with full facilities and they allow dogs as we travel with ours. The site is well maintained, close enough to town to walk and far enough out of town to comfortably relax. We walk quite a lot, up to 10km a day and it suits us. We tend to visit the old town area of Benidorm and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk to the old town. Its well served by bus routes if that’s important. There is numerous bars and restaurants local too.
We have stayed at the others but we do prefer Raco for the above reasons, we have friends who stay at Villasol but there is no pets allowed. Camping Armanello is smaller, not quite up to the standards of Raco, however it is acceptable too.
Our trip is usually from September to April each year. We usually stay in around Benidorm in December/January and use September, October and November to tour Portugal & up to Benidorm and then in February/March/April for the trip north of Benidorm and up through France. We are however touring in a motorhome.
Any other questions then just ask, not an expert by any means but we have been doing the trip for quite a lot of years.
I'm deleting all of the off topic replies and also any replies that don't answer the OP question - they haven't asked about residency. Please stop ruining this forum for people who just want their questions answered.

All depends on the length of stay Jo. Up to 7 days it’s expensive, about €26 per night. After 7 days it drops to about €23 per night. After 14 days it drops again, drops more after 30/60/90 days.... down to about €18 per night, paid in advance. This includes 2kw electric per day, full use of all facilities and includes tourist tax. These prices are based on 2 people, one dog and the big pitches as our motorhome is almost 9 metres in length.
Now if you join the ACSI scheme, see CampingCard you can stay for a fixed rate on camping Arena Blanca or Camping Armanello for about €18 per night, regardless if it’s 1 night or 100 nights.... but the sites are not as good as camping Raco in our opinion.
Be aware that some pitches are better than others, if you wish I can advise on the ones to avoid and the better ones, also availability decreases greatly after mid October.
Hope that helps.

No.
Maybe the Brexit scenario will have implications for longer visits, no one really knows at this stage. There are many thousands who overwinter in Spain, including ourselves for durations much greater than 90 days. We are however fortunate enough to retain the right to legally stay for longer than the 90 days, not sure about entities outside of European passport holders.
Can’t foresee Spain making a big issue out of British visitors, just too rich of a cash cow to be antagonist towards, but who knows.

I've stayed longer than 90 days in the past and never been questioned regarding the period I intend to stay whilst booking or being in spain have stayed at both campsites and apartments for more than the period stated and have never be questioned even when leaving spain to return home
