Good morning everyone.

Like many, we had our hearts set on moving abroad before Covid and Brexit, but now laws and regulations are easing, we are looking again and have fell for Oliva area.

We have found a house we love, but need to find out if there are any schools where our son can get to easily.  He is now 9.  None of us speak Spanish as yet, but willing to learn.

What are the chances of finding part time work here?

My father lives in Rojales and has done so for 20 years so would be a regular visitor.

Any advice, guidance and support will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance 💓

Covid regulations might be easing, but unfortunately Brexit ones are not. Do you just have UK passports?

Hello, yes we do. It's still early stages, so hopefully, with the help of people like yourself, we can get all the right things in motion x

The first thing that you should do is research the various visa requirements.

You cannot just move here now, thanks to Brex*hit, but must first apply for and be granted a visa.

Hi Katie and welcome to the forum,

I'm afraid it's much harder for UK citizens to move to the EU since Brexit, which has relegated us to Third Country Nationals.

There are different Spanish visas you can apply for, depending on your circumstances, e.g. Non-lucrative visa (for those who do not need/want to work), Work visa, Student visa, etc.  Each have specific requirements that applicants must be able to meet, such as minimum income and/or savings, proof of healthcare provision, offer of a work contract from a Spanish employer, etc.  Information about the different visas can be found here:

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LONDRES/en/Consulado/Pages/Visas.aspx

Another good source of information is the Gov.UK website:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain

It probably makes sense for you to have a read through these websites and then post any specific questions you may have.  If you find the amount of information a little overwhelming, but are happy to share more information about your particular circumstances, we may be able to give you a fuller response and point you to the relevant information.

Kind regards,

Kim

Lol, Brexs**it made me chuckle,  it certainly has messed up a whole world of crap!!  But visa Information is a great help. Thank you.

We will need to sell our house here in the UK first before buying abroad, but the type of visa will depend on if I can find a small part time work I guess?? We can be self funded, but not indefinitely.

Are there any schools for a 9ywar old? X

"What are the chances of finding part time work here?"

Unfortunately there is no visa which will allow you come to Spain and seek part time or casual work so if you would need to earn money to support yourselves then sorry to say your plan is a non starter.

That would hold true for the 5 years you would need to live here to achieve permanent residency.

Hi Kim, thank you. It is a total minefield, and so much information to try and sink in.

I will have a good read over the next few days x

Have a good read of it all and try to get to grips with it. Then, as Kimmy says, come back with any specific questions and we'll do our best to help.

Hi

Well its not that easy now, you need to apply at the  Spanish consulate in UK, you need private health insurance you need to pay for a visa, and you need a certain income ,  look on the Spanish Consulate web site for moving to Spain, I know because we were thinking of going for residency, as we were waiting for a year to purchase a property in the UK, but it came through in June 2021, as we have a home in Spain for 17 years, have a look ,
