I have some pine trees in my garden that have now grown way past the overhead power cables, and I am concerned that in high winds the line may be bought down. I have bern to the Iberdrola office, and they said they will send a technician out to see the trees in question. All good there then.

I have been to the Town Hall to enquire as to permission needed to have other trees cut down. I saw the Local Police officer that is on the reception. I explained to him what I wanted (i wrote it out in Spanish on my phone). He went behind the desk and made a call to someone in the Town Hall

Call ended, he told me that as the trees were on my property, I could cut them down without any problem. Nothing was given in writing and I do not know who the officer spoke to on the phone.

But now, after reading many posts on the CB forums and FaceBook about the protection offered to pine trees in Crevillente, I am a little doubtful of what I was told. I really don't want to have them cut down and then find I needed something in writing to allow this, and so could face a hefty fine for not having this permission in writing.

Is there a particular person or department in the Town Hall that I should talk to directly? I have a tree surgeon coming on Tuesday to look at my trees and give me his advice on having them removed.

Maybe I am over worrying about this, but I would like to be certain. Thanks in advance for your replies.

We had three pine trees cut down, two of which were quite substantial. Last year we had two lots of prossessionary caterpillars in them, and the pines made a dreadful mess. I would just crack on and get the trees cut down. Plant some deciduous trees or fruit trees in their place.

Thanks Ian. Went back to the Town Hall again today and told the same thing, in that I can cut them down. I do have another 10 pine trees in what I call my meadow, but fhey are not a problem. I had them sprayed against caterpillars last October and none appearred.

Looking forward to not sweeping up the needles, and having more light in the house. Checked, and there is nothing nesting in any of them.

Sad to have to cut them down, but fruit trees will be planted (a bit further back from the house) to replace them.

Good stuff, sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns!

After my 2nd visit to the Ayuntamiento, I still wasn't 100% comfortable with what I was told, so I sent an email for the attention of the enviroment department about this.

I have just had a visit from a uniformed officer of  Crevillente Medioambiente, who had a look at my trees, and said there was no problem with them being removed.

Very nice officer, very friendly and helpful (despite the language barrier) and I am now totally happy that the felling can go ahead.

Goodmorning,

We also do have a problem with the pine trees on our property. Three of them are getting totaly brown and losing all colour and needles.  Could you please  pass the name of the tree surgeon you consulted and as well the the email address of the person you contacted at the municipality.  This would be helpfull .

Thanks in advance

Pien

The guy we used was a Spanish chap called Basil on 662448565. I wouldn't exactly call him a tree surgeon but he seems to know his stuff. A bit rough and ready, but we've used him three times. If you go ahead with him, make sure you haggle on price. Each time we have got him down by a considerable margin.

I emailed the crevillent town hall at [email protected] and marked the e-mail "For the attention of the Medio Ambiente Department".

I wrote my message in Spanish (Google Translate) explaining my position, and a few photos of the trees concerned.

After seeing a few recommendations on here, I contacted Matt Dread of MJ Gardening. Really nice bloke, knows what he is doing (I watched his videos of cutting trees), and his quote was comprehensive.

No doubt I could have got someone in cheaper, but with the trees being so close to my house, why would I risk having just anybody in?

Good luck with the town hall and with Matt.
