Hi

Planning on buying a retirement property as a permanent residence within the next couple of years. We are looking for an all year round area not to rowdy with a good mix of old and new town, walking distance to beach, shops etc and close to train/bus station as we will not have our own transport. I'd imagine there are quite places that meet this criteria but we would really appreciate some suggestions to enable us to narrow our search down before visiting.

Hello.  You say a permanent residence.  If, prior to 31 December 2020, you were not present in Spain and had not registered for the TIE card (residencia)  or the SIP card (Health Service), you are classed as a 'foreigner'. We have friends in the same situation. They also own a villa here and they have been refused residencia rights which restricts them to 90 day intermittent stays, so please don't buy in ignorance of the residencia rules in Spain.  Alexandre.

PS:  At the moment, an expat group now based in England have begun a petition to the Westminster government to request Spain to relax the 'foreigner' rules, but the EC seem to be set against that at the moment.  Good luck.  Please register with: gov.uk - living in Spain.  It's from the Foreign Office - a wealth of information.
