Hi Maz66, My wife Joan & I retired to Guardamar del Segura 16 years ago & we think we made the correct decision. I agree with all of the replies that I have read above. We do have a car but walk nearly everywhere around town. We do not need a car and our bus service is good, in my opinion. Many apartment blocks have basement under-parking which feels a bit spooky at first, but Guardamar is a very safe and friendly area.
I would advise you that most of the older 5 story high buildings do not have a lift. A lift is desirable when returning with a load of shopping. In our experience the lifts are very reliable and are serviced routinely and any call-out is prompt. We are on a third floor southwest corner with a glazed balcony along the south side, and we open windows all day if we wish the lovely cool sea breeze to waft through. Many plants suffer from excessive heat, therefore its difficult to do British style gardening but there is a good selection of heat & drought tolerant plants that survive on balconies.
Before you get too interested in a particular apartment, take a good look at the state of the road, pavement and outside of the building as Guardamar has ongoing maintenance except for August when all dirty work ceases. This is less of a problem away from the seafront promenade.
There are two dog exercise enclosures which become a social meeting spot under the shade of the pine trees. You may sense that I could continue, but if you have more questions I will be happy to add to the above. I hope that this is helpful, Peter132
