Batteries for solar panels
Iberdrola solar panels - it is difficult to see how they calculate the energy we make. Is it worthwhile buying batteries to store our own energy? Thanks

If you regularly produce more energy than you need during the day and if you sell that back to iberdrola at a lower price than they charge you during the night, then it is better to store the energy in batteries for use during the night (and at other times when you are using more than you are generating), rather than sell it back to them. However, you also need to factor in the cost of the batteries and their predicted lifespan.
A reputable independent solar energy company could review all your data and advise you on the best way forward.

Batteries will need to be replaced every +/-7 years

VERY basic synopsis. If you can find a tariff that allows you to recharge a battery for low cost (example between 2am and 4am) and if you can use that battery to avoid high cost tariff (example 8am to 11pm) AND your battery is big enough to last all during your high tariff, ONLY THEN can you calculate if it is worth it. A battery is the MOST EXPENSIVE part of a solar system and if you are not using it 100% properly then payback is longer BUT if you use it right and can supply ALL of your needs daily, while only paying pittance, then it becomes a great idea.

Hi Vanessa666,
I just wondered how you got on with iberdrola and batteries.
Im interested because I want to pay a company to fit panels on my roof and then do the install of an off grid inverter and batteries myself. I know I can buy lifeop4 batteries fron china, about 5 kw hour for about 950 euros, reputable company, which should be good for 8 or so years. You may know that if you only charge them to some 90% and discharge to no less than 50% then they should be good for at least 8 years. The metric they use is charge, discharge cycles and typical, with reputable batteries you get over 5000 charge cycles.
I dont want to go down the iberdrola system because Im only interested in a small system where I can use most of the power generated by the use of say a 5 kwatt battery.
I was interested in how you got on and am looking for a company who will install panels only which seems to be dificult to find, all the companies want to do a full install.
