Grant Shapps today..

An important note - quarantine exemption for travel will only apply to people vaccinated by the NHS

In a move that could prove controversial among Britons living abroad, Downing Street has clarified the exemption to quarantine for double-jabbed people returning from amber list countries will only apply to those given a vaccine by the NHS.

The prime minister's official spokesman said: "It does need to be a vaccine administered through the NHS rollout so you would need to have received your vaccine through the NHS rather than in a different country."

--------------------------

Does this mean that although I live in Spain, have been double jabbed and have an EU vaccination passport to prove it I would still have to self isolate if visiting the UK?

Surely that can’t be right? Half the UK’s been throwing themselves on their swords, worrying if they’d had the “right” vaccine, enabling travel to Europe. Me included, tho’ can’t say I was worried. Exasperated, yes, but not particularly worried.

What a bloody shambles 🤣🥂

That's how I heard it as well, Steve, but I don't know how it can be justified.

Kind regards,

Kim

It's an absolute disgrace. These people shouldn't be running a shoe shop never mind a country.

Good news for the British tourists that you thought were being held hostage, not yet good news for non-UK vaccinated visitors though I did see the comment in his statement:

--------------

Mr Shapps said the changes he had announced would 'prioritise those vaccinated in the United Kingdom' - but suggested that foreign tourists coming to England could soon benefit from the same treatment.

'We want to welcome international visitors back to the UK and are working to extend our approach to vaccinated passengers from important markets and holiday destinations later this summer, such as the United States and the EU,' he said.

-------------

I don't think it will be long before it changes and other countries are allowed in. You may or may not have noticed that the changes today are England only, not Scotland, Wales or NI. Not sure what the devolved governments are doing, they may follow suit or they may not.

Aitch.

It's plausible that the UK border force/ wider UK systems are only hooked up to the NHS vaccinations database at the moment? This might explain the situation and once integration with other systems takes place we will see them be able to verify non UK vaccination documents.

Not fact but I suspect this is the reason why there is a lag in equal treatment.
