We will. That is why we need to vaccinate the world to suppress disease levels and reduce its opportunities / probability of mutation.

Vaccination will always be cat and mouse. True breakthroughs will be broad spectrum treatments for viruses that aren't too fussed about variants.

As a recent resident in Spain I'd like to see all flights here cancelled until anybody getting on a plane / ship is certificated as having had their jabs. We had lockdowns here on The Costa Blanca for weeks last summer with the beaches closed, 2 km from my place, and all bars and restaurants closed or restricted if they had outdoor space. If we are ever to get these variants under control then tough decisions have to be made. Madrid people with property down here were allowed to travel last summer and the infection rate in the Valencia / Alicante regions made a massive spike with many deaths due to the high infection rate up in the Capital. Let's all work together to get Europe safe before risking more deaths and infections...

Aware of that thanks but still unclear about the relevance of whether she is Indian or not.

The reason I mentioned she isn't Indian is so that people know these variants aren't regional and that they do not respect open borders. The main purpose of me posting was to bring to peoples attention that even when fully vaccinated you can still succumb to Covid.

I would say Spain's border control is perhaps weak given someone with the Indian variant can fly from the UK to Spain without the need for a negative covid test.

If people think the UK was guilty of not closing travel from India once the variant was discovered then Spain is perhaps worse given they do not even need a negative test before allowing someone into the country from another where that variant is dominant.

Yep, i know of a few families who are not going to spain, purely because the testing alone will cost more than their flights, plus the 10 days quarantine, they just can't do it, disgrace

Day 2 and 8 test £79

Day 5 release at boots £85

Test in dam clinic to get on plane €39

Flights were £100 each

Plus 3 weeks holiday allowance used up.

Expensive for a family of four.

La zenia/ villamartin very quite , wonder  why !

It’s a psycho-social tactic called ‘nudge’. It’s favoured by governments who don’t actually like to be seen as passing laws that directly forbid people from doing things. Instead they create a prohibitive environment, financial restrictions, peer pressures and traffic light confusion to...

... intimidate citizens to do their bidding.

But, take a closer look and right from the start all these duplicitous politicians have done exactly what they wanted. How else would Boris get Covid? How else would Cummings travel to Durham and get away with it? Why would two cabinet ministers travel to watch football in Portugal knowing they would turn Portugal amber days later? UK is currently operating as the largest open prison in the world apart from North Korea.

Not bad for a Tory government who’s underlying principle is one of laissez-faire , the belief that individuals should be allowed to make their own way in life without state intervention.

Davee,

"UK is currently operating as the largest open prison in the world apart from North Korea" - really? I don't know which part of the UK you are living in that it compares to N.Korea?

I get that your unhappy with having to pay for testing but don't just ignore the multi-billions the government has given in financial aid to people in the UK.

I find it odd that  Boris gets lots of negative press for supposedly restricting the ability of the UK citizens to travel when actually as I pointed out earlier, it's the same policy for all UK regions, Scotland, NI and Wales. If anything Boris perhaps is more liberal in as much as he allows travel to all parts of the UK, including Manchester and Salford.....................

Aitch..

You can indeed travel to all parts of England, that’s my whole point! You can travel to Manchester via Bolton for example , mixing on rail platforms without a mask in sight. You don’t need to quarantine in Blackpool. Manchester or Bolton. You don’t need tests to give you permission to travel. You don’t need to spend upwards of £800 (based on family of 4) to meet the requirements to travel. You don’t have your temperature taken and when you return home having mixed with (who knows , carrying who knows what) you can mix again with your neighbours , family , friends and colleagues without a care in the world. In fact you’re actively encouraged by the government to behave in this way. Staycations are applauded - crowding our small beaches and tourists spots even more thus increasing potential super/spreaders. Lessons not learned from 16 months ago!

Whereas I , am tested before I travel to Spain, if I fly everyone else on that plane has been tested and jumped through hoops to be on the flight Risks are negligible . I’m temperature tested on landing, I complete location forms, I take tests to return, quarantine for 10 days having had no air contact with strangers (everyone wears a mask in public in Spain). take further two tests and live under virtual house arrest with government agents checking I remain so.

How, just how can this government strategy that allowed the delta covid horse to bolt before trying to lockdown to late and seem tough , just how is this intelligent and coherent?

It makes no sense in terms of public safety otherwise as they did in Spain they would have had internal borders and local / regional closures. it is just a cynical method of this government trying to recoup revenue from the holiday taxpayer.

It is a prison - you’re locked in , physically and financially, emotionally  with a whimsical traffic light system that is meaningless nonsense. Green or red would have been sufficient. Go or stay put.

Personally I feel safer in the streets of Benissa or Benidorm than in Blackpool or Bolton. If I didn’t have to come back to UK I wouldn’t but another word beginning with B put pay to that, I’ve now got less freedom than I did 6 months ago thanks to that.

This government has spent millions but nothing compared to the US or what the EU are funding to individual member states to come through this crisis.

Easyjet has repositioned its British fleet to bring Germans down to the Costa Blanca according to Simon Calder in the Independent.

As mainland Europeans flood into Spain for their holidays, British home owners and holidaymakers that want to come to Spain are being told no.

Is the true agenda that the British government really just wants you to spend your cash in the UK?

Steve

Yes I'm afraid so, this has been going on since Brexit, Boris and his team have been working hard on this. Even getting banks to freeze ex-pats British bank accounts, so devious, haven't you watched the ads for holidays in GB, we don't know the half of it.
