I think it’s rediculous, the spanish govt are allowing Spanish nationals and residents to fly into Spain from the uk , on the very same plane any uk resident would have been on but for the ban. How do they know the spanish nationals/residents haven’t got the new strain?

I would think any country would have to allow their nationals to return home .I would also assume that in this case Spanish nationals would have to supply test results or take a test on Spanish soil

Your missing my point, pcr test is taken by uk resident and Spanish national, both negative. What’s the difference.

The difference is that Spanish passport holders and Brits who are officially residents of Spain are coming home.

The difference is that currently the EU is not 100% certain that a PCR will detect the new strain. Refusing home country entry is not an option.

(If you were in Spain and the UK denied you entry to your own country how would you feel about that? Without double checking I would suggest it would be unlawful)

Completely missed the point again..I have a home there too, but because I’ve been unable to visit it for over a year due largely to Covid I’m unable to obtain a residency.

Please also note I am Covid negative and present no threat to anyone.it’s unfair ...

And as I stated at the beginning typical of the Spanish govt, a stupid rule that isn’t protecting Spanish people from anything.

This is about protecting the people of each country and the spread of Covid 19.

There’s zero proof to suggest anything re-new strain, I’ll state again I do not have Covid, I took a test at my expense and present no threat to anyone.

We did exactly what was asked of us, only for spain to curtail to the almost blind panic from other Eu countries.

There are new strain Covid positive people in Italy, Belgium and Holland and yet their not banned from entry into Spain...

I can understand  your frustration, but I agree a country cannot prevent a national back in to their own country as would render them stateless. I bet that when Johnson and co announced another set of rule changes on Saturday evening they never in their darkest nightmares could have seen the fallout of their actions .We left Spain on 2 November for UK for a more traditional xmas with foresight wouldn't have travelled  due back 19  February  but who knows .Looks like we just all need to hope for the best merry xmas

I agree with your sentiment john, but believe Spain’s knee jerk reaction was brought on by the Eu panic.

This kicking out at the Spanish government is a shame.

Spain got caught out badly with the first wave. They then acted very swiftly and decisively to implement a strict lockdown. The UK waited.....remember "please don't go to the pub"? UK pubs stayed open for several days before a closure order. Spain's were closed within 7 hours of the Decree to close.

Spain made mask wearing mandatory. The UK has not.

Spain has not had a second lockdown.

The population obey the rules. In the UK many do not.

So really the reputation that Johnson has earned for dither and delay has not gone unnoticed in other countries. It's not just the EU so please don't blame them, currently 60 countries worldwide are blocking entry to UK citizens.

The Spanish government takes its duty to protect the public very seriously. It has acted decisively and communicated well to the population. That's good leadership. That's responsible leadership.
