I have to say, that after 17years living in Spain, that, in general, I get friendly, helpful service, particularly in retail establishments.    However, the two bugbears in my life, are my local Sabadell branch + the one in La Zenia, and (I’m surprised that nobody else has mentioned i...

You are blowing a bit hot and cold there DAF....

Ive lived here in Benidorm for some years now and never had that sort of experience in my local (and in the old town) Correos!! The ladies that serve have always been helpful and friendly.

However, I did experience that sort of attitude several times when I lived in the UK.

Credit where its due.

Never met anybody in the Torrevieja area with a good word for the Post Office, perhaps you are just lucky in Benidorm!

I think I'm probably lucky. My village Correos is a one woman fortress. So I only have one person to deal with! Rosa, formidable.

When I first moved here 5 years ago, an extranjero, she was a little cool at first (well for a year actually!) but gradually I have won her over.

Yesterday I went to post a letter and she was locking it up (during official opening hours) presumably to go on a personal errand. She went back, opened it up, and took my letter. A triumph if ever there was one.

How have I done this? By being extremely polite, using Spanish as much as possible, sympathising with her about having to work in the heat, asking if her family is well, and occasionally leaving a small tip.

As I said in my opening post, it shouldn't have to be like this, but like it or not, it is, and I'm happy to go with the flow.

I do understand that experience in large towns and cities may vary 😎
