Hiya... Ok so this is a long term plan.. Moving to Spain around the Alicante area has been on my mine and my wife's mind for a while now    and after a lot of chat we've decided to start now looking into it.  When I say long term I mean long term....       I retire from the fire service in 8  years time and if everything was as it is at this precise moment with the equity we have in our current home and my pension we should be  in a  position to buy with  no  mortgage.. I obviously understand that a lot can change in that time, but I'm kind of thinking I have to use          something as a bench mark.

Looking at the areas they all look fab but we seemed to be drawn to places like Benigembla  and other inland areas.  We would love             peoples   more experienced advice on areas.  We are kind of young at heart people,  like to meet others and socialise but at the same time    love peace    and tranquillity.  Both of us are scuba divers ( i'm actually an instructor and my wife is rescue) and cycle.  Were looking to be   max 1hr     from Alicante airport and also close-ish to the sea ( as we cant dive without water !!!)  oh and a bar is a must !!! lol

My advice would be to park this idea up until you are close to pulling the trigger

Areas can change significantly in the space of a year with new developments. Asking for advice on an area which you are not planning on moving to for 8 years is pointless.

I would suggest you use the next 6/7 years visiting the area and doing some on the ground research. Flights and hire cars at Alicante are peanuts  So ignore forums and other people's opinions and do the fact finding yourself

Benichembla is North Costa Blanca .. there are many Brits here and you are near to lots of activities ,, many groups and associations .. but be in no doubt regarding Brexit .. wait and see.  If the reciprocal health care is withdrawn which seems highly likely for new retirees to EU countries .. can you afford the high costs of private medical care??/ .. that is the first and foremost concern rather than where you may live.  Many retired Brits would be forced to return to UK and will or might change the face of the Costas .. I am in a group online called Bremain in Spain online .. very helpful and follows the Brexit focus with people who live and work in Spain.  The dreadful exchange rate has lowered pensions from UK to Spain by 20% .. that is a big hit.  My advice is rent first and keep your home in UK before taking the plunge .. good luck
