Just thought I would share this information. Last Friday we flew to Tenerife and returned on Monday. What's funny is not once was I asked for my passport or any id, I literally just walked straight through security and onto the plane, both going and returning. What's even stranger is that on the way back they said it was mandatory to wear facemask and if we didn't have one we must ask other passengers if they have a spare one, I really wish that last part was a joke. The travel without a passport being checked isn't the first time for either happend going to the UK last time I travelled aswel

Hi Martyn,

It's still mandatory to wear face masks on public transport traveling into and throughout Spain, so I'd be interested to hear which airline allowed you to board without one?

Kind regards,

Kim

Ryanair, been backwards and forwards to Italy and friends and family from the UK and not one had to wear one. Is it mandatory now not to ask for passport or ID? If so I won't bother renewing my daughters passports lol

Thanks, Martyn, I never fly Ryanair, LOL!

I'm not aware that security checks have been abolished, not least because there's been a further delay to the roll-outs of EES and ETIAS, which capture traveller movements electronically, but I can imagine that some staff may be a little lax when it's an internal flight between Spanish territories.  I certainly wouldn't recommend any UK citizens to fly without their passport - even those of us who have Spanish residency cannot fly between EU countries with only our TIEs.

Kind regards,

Kim

I found it strange that it was only on our return flight that the masks were asked to be worn. I never wore mine because I didn't have one

The Canary Islands are an Autonomous Community in the same way as those on the Spanish mainland, so perhaps their requirements are different from Comunidad Valenciana's?  Or perhaps they don't expect the airlines to police something that their own police authorities don't have time to do?

We're flying to the UK at the end of this month (we drove last year), so it will be interesting to see how things have changed.  No problem for me carrying passport, TIE, Covid vaccination certificate and mask, but I'm pleased the health forms have been discontinued - people talk about Spanish bureacracy, but Spain's health control form was a doddle compared to the UK's passenger location form, LOL!

Kind regards,

Kim

I never flew to UK when they were required but my family had nightmares with them.

Obviously no longer considered as mandatory, I have flown Ryan air, Jet2 and Easy jet all within the past eight months, and never any request to wear masks. Prior to then it used to be requested by boarding staff, but not any longer. It might still be mandatory as far as theory is concerned, but it’s not practiced in reality by any of the above carriers. Or at least, never on the flights I have been on. And I’m sure if there was any legal comeback on the carrier, they would definitely insist, and they don’t. So draw your own conclusion.

Tbf I have mates who work for Ryanair and they say it's in the T&C's that mask wearing is not mandatory however the staff and have a right to ask. But the staff weren't wearing them on the flights to Italy and returning or the flight to Tenerife so probably just being job worth's, most people just removed theirs

Hi Hew,

I'm flying SqueezyJet at the end of the month - as it's a Spanish regulation, I don't anticipate being asked to wear a mask on the outbound flight to the UK, but it will be interesting to see whether we're asked to wear them on the return.

Kind regards,

Kim
