Hello. Before this covid19 panic took over l had hoped to move on a permanent basis to Benidorm. Well here l am writing on a wet, dark and overcast morning. I'm 70 years of age, single, (my wife sadly passed away four years ago this Christmas) active and no underlying health issues that l know of.  When, and if, restrictions are lifted and we get back to a bit of normality l hope to make a permanent move to Benidorm. I have e mailed the insurers asking for the annual fees and cover provided. If anyone has any experience dealing with this company, or any other advice, I'd love to hear from you.  Many regards. Seamus.

Hi Seamus, my partner and I took out ASSSA private health insurance when we got here in 2018.

The selling point for us was the fact they guarantee not to raise your premium by more than the rate of inflation regardless of your advancing age. They have been true to their word, in fact they've just notified us that 2021 premium is staying the same as this year.

They provided the certificates we required for residencia with no problems. We both have exclusions for relatively minor pre existing conditions, they weren't mentioned on the certificates.

We took out the additional dental cover and so far they are the only resources we have called on, so can't comment on actual medical provision, but have no reason to believe it wouldn't meet our needs.

Hello

As you are 70, you are probably getting a UK pension, so  you won't need private health insurance to live here in Spain. You can apply for a form S1 from  Dept of Works & Pensions which will allow you to access the Spanish health authority & it will be funded by the Uk.

On first arriving to live here, you would need some medical insurance to cover you until you could apply for and become a legal resident  (residencia -  TIE card)    once you have achieved that,  you can then make a claim , with your SI for your Spanish  health card .

Without swamping you with information, that is  your  health cover explained, there is more to know about residencia but it could change after 1/1/2021 so you can learn more next year.

Hope that helps. . . .

Cheers

Many thanks for taking the trouble to write, l do appreciate it. Let's hope to see an end soon to this covid19 nightmare.

Hi Seamus,

My husband and I also have cover with ASSSA and, like Herefordjack, our experience with them has been very good.  I've only had "well woman" type tests, but have always been able to get a GP's appointment within 24 hours and test results in a week.  My husband and I are 62 and 60 respectively, we have no pre-existing conditions and we pay a total of €1,780 per annum for mid range cover.

As Elinspain has advised, if you do qualify for an S1 from the UK, you won't need PHI.  Responsibility for Overseas Healthcare Services and the S1 scheme transferred from the DWP to the NHS Business Services Authority at the beginning of the year - their contact details are:

[email protected]

However, to benefit from the S1 scheme, you would need to move to Spain before the end of the Brexit transition period on 31 December, in order to be protected by the Withdrawal Agreement - unless you're lucky enough to have an Irish passport....... 😃

Kind regards,

Kim

My husband and I (61 &59) have our health and dental policies with ASSSA. We have no complaints.

I had a hip problem last year and went straight to see a Consultant at one of the listed private hospitals.

They were very thorough and even requested expensive MRI scans, which ASSSA authorised with no delay.

Hope you get sorted, so you can join us all, enjoying this lovely life in Spain.

I don't know much about health insurance.  My advice to you is as soon as you can get out here do it.   My Mother in law is on a site in benidorm and has more friends here than at home, she ihas more of a life than me at 75.  Just get on that plane there is also a lot of bargains to be had in terms of buying a mobile home.  I wish you all the luck in the World just hurry up and get here asap.. x

Kimmy... believe it or not l Do have an lrish passport. I was born in Wexford Town and my parents moved to UK when l was five years old.  We did live in Wexford in 2000, l worked for around 12 months, but my wife wanted to come back to the UK. I doubt that would qualify me for the lrish equivalent of the SI form, tell you the truth l never gave it any thought.  Thank you for bringing it to my attention.   Regards...

Kitty, I'm sitting here in the half dark, drizzling and miserable outside. Can't even go for a few pints and a waffle... all pubs and cafes closed under Bojo's tier3 house arrest.  I assure you that when this covid 'emergency' is over l I fully intend to get over and sorted. You know, I've not spoken, in person, to a soul since last Saturday  when l drove to Aldi for my weekly shopping, great eh!   Anyway, thanks for your input. Re ards..

Hi!  Sorry for not replying sooner the Internet connection is not very good here at times, I am in Albir on camping cap blanch.  I'm so sorry you have been so isolated, it so wrong on every level, we got out as soon as I thought oh no where going to get locked down.  We are over here til mid Jan, hopefully you can get out here very soon. I have a motorhome and today it was like we had a tornado I have a wrap around wind break and it's a good one, well it just got ripped out the ground and I didn't know which part to run after first it was a nightmare but I can laugh now!  Haha!  It was over in 5 minutes though.  Where about are you I'm from Liverpool but live in Bebington in the Wirral.I was thinking of buying a business out here before the pandemic I'm so glad I never now.  I want to as soon as I can I love Benidorm and Albir so much it's in my blood   I hate leaving.  You will be out here soon living the best life and the pints are half the price, what is not to love, you have a lovely future, it won't be long love!  Kitty
