Hi There, I am trying to convince my wife to escape the next British winter. I have pitched her on renting a house or villa & driving across as I would want to bring our little dog. I know Monty needs a pet passport to get back into UK. Has anyone done this please ? Spain is the obvious choice as there is easy access from UKAre there any advantages or pitfalls to this?

Hi we have a dog and travel back and forth Spain to UK , we use the ferry Plymouth to santander crossing where there are kennels on top deck with 24 hour access or there's a Plymouth to Bilbao which have pet friendly cabins but these book up quick both are overnight crossings. If I had a choice I would go or the pet friendly Bilbao crossing. Regards Paul

We bring 2 very large dogs with us every summer. Drive NW England to Villamartin. Eurotunnel, Western France, San Sebastian, Zaragoza. We don't do the Bilbao ferry as in the summer it is extortionate and takes 14 hrs longer.
We do it in 28hrs and share the driving with the wife. Stop every couple of hours for a stretch for us and the dogs. We don't overnight stop and drive straight through.
We don't penny pinch and stick to the toll roads. It's a very easy drive, we don't see the point in stopping we just want to get to our house.

What is life like in Spain with the dogs please. Are there places you cam walk them safely? We lived in Cyprus & had to carry a poison kit as some locals would put poison down

It's fine. Usual heat problems but you will know about that. No dogs allowed on the beaches. But in reality who would take a dog the beach in the middle of summer.
I take mine out on a long walk in the Morning. I'm Villamartin and there are lots of good walks.
