Unless anything has changed, you will need to be at your chosen bank in person to sign documents to open your account. You would need to present your passport and proof of your NIE number.

If you are opening an account as part of a residency application you need to show 3 months of income into that account at an amount to satisfy the authorities you won't become a burden on the state. At the moment that amount is said to be €900 each per month.

Hi Steve,

You may not have picked it up from my other posts, but the financial requirements for first-time TIE/residency applications was reduced last week - it is now either a lump sum of €5,500 per person, or €500 per person, per month, and as you say, the money has to be in a Spanish bank account for a minimum of 3 months.

Kind regards,

Kim

So what, RayD, you're point scoring over monthly income of €461,53 versus €500,00?  Even though it's even LOWER AGAIN than the former amount of €750.

In that case, I'm sure you'll appreciate me pointing out, "if YOU do the maths", that 12 x €461,53 = €5.538.36, not €5.538,40!

I recently opened a non resident account with Sabadell. I did the preliminaries online and they contacted me to arrange an appointment in the El Campello branch the last time I was in Spain. It is a requirement that you open it in person in the branch. The whole process was pretty straightforward- they opened a keycard account for me and sent the debit card to my UK address within a week.

Sabadell charge fees for non residents and even recently started charging residents fees unless they took extra insurances. Open an account with Cajamar bank, called "wefferrent", its online and you can arrange all your direct debits with them, they impose no conditions and even free for non residents. Google their website. Must open in person at branch.

A couple of months ago, there was something of a call to arms, by a number of members, myself included, requesting that we, members, were mindful of others when posting

This was as a result of some inflammatory, unpleasant language and posts.

There was a rallying call from Nicola.....

https://www.costablancaforum.com/jump-to-post/?id=343372

Many supported this.

I will only speak for myself; others may agree or not. This week, a number of threads have, for me, made for very uncomfortable reading.

Can I respectfully ask that we all, again, show the same considerations that we appeared to endorse so very recently🤪🥂

Non-residents can't apply for the Weferrent account online - they have to take all their documentation with them and arrange it in branch. The account is free as long as you use online banking - if you have to go in to branch for whatever reason, then there is a charge. Apart from that, it's a good account so long as you stick to online banking.
