I have a 1972 MG Midget , which I would like to bring over from England and leave at our urbanisation in Benidorm.

Can anyone inform me of the rules and regulations of doing this, and if there are any pitfalls....!!

You need to re-register a car on to Spanish plates within 6 months. Pretty sure this applies to classic cars as well.

There are companies that can manage this for you, detailed on other posts in this forum. This involves gaining a Spanish MOT (ITV), changing headlights etc (assuming your MG is RHD), as well as getting a Spanish registration document.

I have a couple of cars in Spain, brought from the UK, that will go on to Spanish plates in a couple of months. They have very little value, and I am expecting to pay around 1100 Euros each (not including the headlights).  The cost includes taxes, which depend on age, value and CO2 rating.

One thing to think about ... re-registering your MG in Spain may devalue it.

If you do decide to bring it across, and don't fancy the long drive, there are companies offering to pick it up in England/drop it off door to door in Spain. I used cartranspain.com. They do a weekly run, use modern transporters, and insure your car while it is in their custody. They charged me £625 to bring a mid/large car across last October.

Hi,

Yes I totally agree driving down in your  midget may not be as comfortable as you think so I would recommend a Transport &Storage  Company here in the Alicante area to transport and store your vehicle until you get down here.

They are reliable reputable and honest insured and transports classic prestige sports cars bikes jetskis no job too small ,personal storage.

For more info private message me.

Linda.
