I have a holiday home and bought a car to use when I come over. All I needed was a Spanish address and NIE. Not sure if that helps.

Try FWR Eurocars near Alicante Airport. Excellent service and Frank the owner is a first class honest guy.

Yes but you'll need an NIE and proof of address, rental contract or deeds. You don't need to be on the padron.

Do you really mean "for a 90 day stay"?
We know hire car can be expensive but depending on what you buy buying just for 90 days then selling might just turn out to be far more trouble than it's worth.

I wasn’t allowed to pick up my 2nd hand car from a dealers in Alicante without my padron. May be it was because I had TIE. Not sure what the process is if you buy privately . You can get on the padron if you own or rent a property.

Hi Andy,
Nothing to do with you having a TIE. I've bought 2 new cars since living in Spain - the first time, I took an up to date Padrón with me and when I passed it to the dealer, he made a facial expression that said, "Why are you bothering me with this?!" and then chucked it back at me. The second time, I didn't offer the Padrón and the dealer didn't ask for it.
Kind regards,
Kim

Hi Shelly,
If a car dealer asks you for a Padrón certicate, tell him that you're not a Spanish resident and it's illegal for non-residents to register on the Padrón - which it is!
Kind regards,
Kim
