Assuming that you mean the end of a residency visa:

You will become full permanent residents here in Spain after your 5 year temporary vis expires and you will have all the rights as a Spanish citizen for healthcare and rights to employment.

Permanent residence

Citizens of a Member State of the European Union and family members who are not EU Member State nationals acquire the right of permanent residence in Spain if they have lived there legally for a continuous period of five years.

The following links provide more detailed information:

https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/residence/documents-formalities/eu-nationals-permanent-residence/index_en.htm

Non EU nationals can also obtain permanent residency in Spain after having legally lived in the country for a period of five uninterrupted years. When they fulfill this specific condition, they can apply for permanent residency and then gain the right to live for the rest of their lives in the country.

Not entirely true as unless you have an S1, or take up emoyment, then you will not be entitled to the same health care as a Spanish citizen.

Are you asking about the procedure to change your TIE issued under the withdrawal agreement? I ask as you mention working.

Yes, I was incorrectly assuming the OP was here on a retirement visa.

I've had residency since 2017 (the old green document) and got my TIE when they were issued in 2020 (under the terms of the withdrawal agreement) I am currently covered on the Spanish healthcare system courtesy of the S1 form

I will have to apply to have it renewed next year (2025), does anyone know if the procedure is it likely to be a straightforward swap or will I have to go the the rigmarole of proving a much higher income, getting a background check, health Insurance and all that stuff that seem to be required these days.

Thanks

Gary

Once you are granted permanent residency after 5 years there is no need to show proof of income, healthcare or anything else. You can simply apply to renew it before the expiry date and your new one will show permanent residency and will be valid for 10 years.

Hi we were out last night and in a conversation we were told that things maybe changing in the system of applying for a new visa. We have done the first year and then the two year and after Christmas will start the process of our second 2 year visa. We were told that we can apply early and could get a ten year TIE. Any one heard anything or is it just gossip? Thanks all and Merry Christmas.
