Hello everyone! I'm Raquel, a doctoral researcher at the University of Alicante. My current work explores how retired British nationals are experiencing life in Spain, especially in light of the changes brought on by Brexit. I’m reaching out because your stories matter. This research aims to better understand the day-to-day lives, challenges, and joys of British retirees in the region. It also hopes to support initiatives that fight loneliness and improve well-being among older adults living abroad in the post-Brexit landscape. If you’re retired, originally from the UK, and currently living in the Alicante region, I’d love to hear from you! Whether you’ve been here for years or recently arrived, your perspective is incredibly valuable. If you're open to having a friendly personal chat or interview (in English, of course!), please feel free to send me a message. Everything you share will be treated with full confidentiality and used solely for research purposes.Thank you so much for considering, and feel free to tag friends who might be interested too!

Good morning! This work is carried out within the framework of a grant for the recruitment of pre-doctoral research staff (ACIF) financed by the Generalitat Valenciana and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027. You can find more about my professional profile here: https://observatorio-cientifico.ua.es/investigadores/1323807/detalle?lang=en

I may be interested.

I have lived in Rojales with my wife for 19 years, coming out when she retired & wouldn't go back now!!

I started regular weekly life drawing art classes using many contact models from UK (& other countries) & largely ex-pat artists, but following Brexit, these have generally stopped.
Travelling to Spain for work has become more difficult for models and many of my 'regular' artists have returned to UK or have to go back every 3 months so can't get very involved any more.

We came to Spain in 2016 and have lived here through the confusion of Brexit.  We brought my severely disabled son but had to return him to a UK hospital because of the effects of a brexit.  Contact us if you wish.
