Hi what is the total amount of accumulated days i can be outside of spain  prior to applying for permanent residence .

Ive been on trips outside of spain for a few months here and there but wish to know the maximum accumulated total to i can still apply for permanent residency . I heard it was 5 months total but also 10 months so any accurate info would be greatly appreciated .Thanks for any advice

Hi E,

Yes, that's correct, if your residency pre-dates 31 December 2020, but it cannot be read in isolation - if you have been resident less than 5 years ("Temporal"), you cannot be out of Spain for more than 182 days (i.e. 6 months) during each of those 5 years, or a total of 12 months across the first 5 years.  Once you have been resident more than 5 years ("Permanente"), you can leave Spain for a maximum period of up to a continuous 2 year period.
